  • Amazon takes driver’s seat in supply chain

    Amazon drones may still be in the future, but Amazon trucks are ready now.

    According to Re/Code, Amazon.com has purchased thousands of trailers that it will deploy in shipments along its supply chain, but not to customer homes. The branded trailers storing Amazon merchandise will be pulled by tractor trucks provided by existing third-party transportation partners.

    These shipments will occur between Amazon fulfillment centers and other internal fulfillment centers or sortation centers. At least for now, Amazon trailers will not be used for any customer deliveries.

  • Canadian menswear chain takes enterprising omnichannel approach

    Harry Rosen, Inc., a 17-store, Toronto-based luxury menswear retailer, is making the back-end effort to offer a front-end omnichannel experience.

    Harry Rosen has chosen the Jesta I.S. Omnichannel Retail Suite, including merchandising, planning, distribution, POS and mobile POS, financials and business intelligence. The retailer expects to centralize its operations on the Jesta I.S. Vision Suite, bringing the entire company onto a single, integrated retail platform.

  • Kohl’s has a heck of a week

    With all the attention focused on generally strong online holiday sales during “Cyber Week” (Nov. 23-29), it may be instructive to look at the experience of one major retailer.

    Kohl’s has released an infographic summarizing what so far is a successful digital holiday shopping season. Among the facts and figures Kohl’s has released about the performance of Kohls.com during Cyber Week:

  • Nordstrom Rack on the move

    Nordstrom Rack, the off-price division of Nordstrom, continues its expansion, announcing two new upcoming locations.

    The retailer plans to open a 28,000-sq.-ft. store at Fashion Outlets of Chicago in Rosemont, Ill., in fall 2016. The property is owned by Macerich.

  • Tractor Supply slashes energy costs 40% at new DC

    Tractor Supply Company is seeing green at its new distribution center.

    The company’s new DC ,in Casa Grande, Arizona, has achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. It is the second LEED Silver certification awarded to a Tractor Supply Company facility within the last year.

    It’s official: Smart & Final Stores is acquiring 32 Haggen stores in Central and Southern California.

  • Smart & Final expands California footprint with store purchase

    It’s official: Smart & Final Stores is acquiring 32 Haggen stores in Central and Southern California.

    Smart & Final has been approved by the United States Bankruptcy Court to purchase 32 store leases – four of which are supplemental to the chain’s previously announced stalking-horse bid –from affiliates of Haggen Holdings for a total cash purchase price of approximately $68 million. Smart & Final plans to convert the 32 stores to its Extra! Store format.

  • Report: Judge OKs sales of 47 Haggen stores

    Haggen has received approval from a federal bankruptcy court to sell 47 stores. Included in the sale are 33 supermarkets to Albertsons LLC, which formerly owned the stores. Albertsons sold the stores to Haggen just less than 12 months ago.
