    Wayfair has named an e-commerce veteran from Staples to oversee supply chain and operations at the growing online retailer.

    Wayfair announced that Sharif Sleiman has joined the company as vice president of supply chain and operations.  

  • Nordstrom shows digital strength amid difficult Q4

    Increased expenses and shrinking margins hurt Nordstrom profitability in the fourth quarter, but the leading department store and off-price retailer delivered on the e-commerce front.

    Nordstrom said sales for the fourth quarter increased 5.2% to $4.1 billion and same store sales increased 1%. The company’s full price stores and Nordstrom.com grew sales 0.7% and same stores sales increased 0.2%. However, the growth was largely driven by Nordstrom.com sales which increased 11% and offset a 3.2% decline at physical stores.

  • DSW buying Ebuys Inc. in $62.5 million deal

    DSW is expanding its e-commerce capabilities with a deal to acquire Ebuys Inc., an online off-price footwear retailer with a presence in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

    DSW announced that the purchase price includes an upfront payment of $62.5 million as well as future payments contingent on the performance of Ebuys, Inc. The deal is expected to close within the next 30 days.

    For pizza retailer Papa John’s International Inc., successful customer delivery begins with successful delivery in the supply chain.

    Papa John’s is optimizing routes, improving on-time store deliveries and enhancing the performance of its transportation fleet by using transportation modeling capabilities from the Manhattan Associates Transportation Management Solution.

  • Off-pricer to make Canadian debut

    Nordstrom continues to expand north of the border.

    The retailer announced that its Nordstrom Rack off-price division will open its first Canadian location, in Toronto, in 2018.

    The 38,600-sq.-ft. store will be located at One Bloor in Yorkville, on the southeast corner of Yonge Street and Bloor Street, a well-known shopping district in Toronto. It will be approximately one mile north of the Nordstrom full-line store, which is scheduled to open in September 2016 at CF Eaton Centre.

    Offering a high-quality, seamless digital shopping experience is no longer a competitive differentiator, but a competitive necessity.

    This is the main finding of a new study from Kibo (the new company created from the merger of MarketLive, Shopatron and Fiverun), “The Digitally Demanding Consumer.” The survey of 3,000 U.S. and U.K. consumers shows a high degree of omnichannel activity. Sixty-two percent of U.S. shoppers perform online research before visiting a store, and 80% of all respondents prefer to buy online and have products shipped home.
