  • Tuesday Morning expects Q1 loss following comps drop

    DALLAS — Continued softness in the home and housewares category is evident at Tuesday Morning, which said it expects the loss per share for the first quarter to be in the range of 12 cents to 13 cents.

    Tuesday Morning reported that sales for its first quarter ended Sept. 30 were down 1.2% to $170.7 million from $172.8 million last year. The company said comparable-stores were down 4.1% comprised of a 5.2% decrease in traffic offset by a 1.1% increase in average ticket. 

  • Jones Group considering sale of denim division

    New York City -- Apparel manufacturer and retailer The Jones Group confirmed Tuesday that it is in discussions to divest its jeanswear division for between $350 million to $400 million.

    The potential buyer is Israeli clothing maker Delta Galil Industries.

    Jones Group, whose brands include Anne Klein and Nine West, said talks should conclude within a month, but cautioned that no deal has been reached. If the two were to reach a deal, Jones said it would use net proceeds for share repurchases.

  • Tuesday Morning Q1 sales dip 1.2%

    Dallas -- Tuesday Morning Corp. reported Tuesday that net sales for the quarter ended Sept. 30 edged down 1.2% to $170.7 million, compared with $172.8 million in the year-ago period.

    Same-store sales for the period declined 4.1%, comprised of a 5.2% decrease in traffic offset by a 1.1% increase in average ticket.
     

  • Food Lion receives LEED Silver certification for two stores

    Salisbury, N.C. -- Food Lion said Tuesday that two of its stores in Fayetteville, N.C., have been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver certifications by the U.S. Green Building Council.

    The green grocery stores feature a number of environmentally friendly construction and energy-efficient services, including an on-site recycling center, an educational kiosk and preferred parking for carpool vehicles.

  • Prime Sole to open at Clocktower Place

    Florissant, Mo. -- Brixmor Property Group announced a 5,000-sq.-ft. lease has been executed with shoe retailer Prime Sole at Clocktower Place, located in Florissant, Mo.

    Brixmor, based in New York City, is the owner of Clocktower Place.

  • Motorola Solutions unveils tablet built for enterprise users; first solutions focused on retail

    Schaumberg, Ill. -- Motorola Solutions on Monday announced the first tablet computer built from the ground up specifically for enterprise users, the Android-based ET1. With the first solutions focused on retail, the new tablet will be available in fourth quarter 2011.

    Similar in appearance to a consumer tablet, the new ET1 is designed to leverage the sleek design and user experience of a tablet with the applications, durability, security, device management and lifecycle-support needs that are specific to the retail environment.

  • Report: U.S. mall vacancy rate at 9.4%

    New York City -- Vacancies at U.S. regional shopping malls rose to 9.4% in the third quarter (ended Sept. 30), according to property-research firm Reis, Reuters reported. It represents the highest level since Reis began publishing the data in 2000, and was up from 9.3% in the second quarter.

    Landlords' asking mall rents rose to $38.81 per square foot in the third quarter, up from $38.77 in the previous three months and $38.72 a year earlier, according to Reis.
