  • GameStop expects to raise the sales score in 2012

    GRAPEVINE, Texas — GameStop is postive about 2012, despite ending 2011 with a quarter of declining sales and earnings.

    Paul Raines, chief executive officer, stated, “In 2011, GameStop outperformed the video game market through disciplined execution of its core business and strategic initiatives. For 2012, we project operating earnings growth based on the continuation of our transformation, led by our strong pre-owned business, expanding digital offerings and emerging mobile categories.”

  • Dollar General sets Q4 sales and profit records; 625 stores on tap for 2012

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. -- Dollar General Corp. reported Thursday that profit for the quarter ended Feb. 3 surged 33% to a record $299 million, from $226 million in the prior year.

    Sales increased 20.1% to $4.19 billion, compared with $3.49 billion in the year-ago period. Same-store sales rose 6.5%.
       
    For the full year, profit rose 26% to $819 million, from $649 million in 2010. Sales surged 13.6% to $14.8 billion, from $13 billion last year. Same-store sales rose 6%.
       

  • Neiman Marcus invests in Chinese e-commerce company

    Dallas -- The Neiman Marcus Group said Thursday that it will invest $28 million in Glamour Sales Holding, a Shanghai-based e-commerce company, as part of its strategy to gain a foothold in the Asian e-commerce marketplace.

    “We are taking this bold step to establish Neiman Marcus Group as an international brand,” said Karen Katz, president and CEO, Neiman Marcus Group.

  • Opus Development to build smaller-format Gander Mountain prototype

    Minneapolis -- Opus Development Corp. said Wednesday that it has been selected to develop, design and build a new 52,000-sq.-ft. retail store for Gander Mountain Co., located in Valdosta, Ga.

    The retail building will be used as a model for future Gander Mountain stores as the retailer looks to introduce a smaller retail concept in small-to-mid-size markets across the country.

    The project is scheduled for completion in late 2012.

    Opus AE Group will design the building and it will be constructed by Opus Design Build.

    MEMPHIS — Regional discounter Fred’s made good on its promise of a year ago to further expand a new merchandising initiative, but an intensely competitive market made fourth-quarter sales tough to come by.

  • Sport Clips signs sixth lease in the Philadelphia region

    Plymouth Meeting, Pa. -- Fameco Real Estate announced that Sports Clips has signed its sixth lease in the Philadelphia region as part of an aggressive store roll out campaign.

    Sports Clips is focusing its efforts on the Philadelphia MSA and Fameco’s Jim Creed is spearheading the expansion in this market which includes southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware.

  • ODP to offer prepaid card from American Express

    NEW YORK — Office Depot has teamed up with American Express to launch a prepaid reloadable card with no monthly or maintenance fees, will soon be available in retail at select Office Depot stores. The card will roll out in more than 1,100 stores across the United States in the coming weeks.

  • Macy's makes moves for Millenials

    NEW YORK — Macy’s on Wednesday outlined a new initiative to grow its business with the Millennial generation (ages 13 to 30). The group spends an estimated $65 billion each year for the type of goods sold at Macy’s.
