  • Stater Bros. names VP of real estate

    Michael Reed has been promoted to VP real estate for Stater Bros. Markets.  
     
    Reed joined Stater Bros. in 2014 as senior director of real estate, a position he held until his recent promotion. He will report to president and CEO Pete Van Helden.

    Prior to Stater Bros., Reed served as real estate store development manager for Starbucks where he was responsible for growing the company’s Mid-West and Western Mountain regions.  

    Stater Bros. operates 168 supermarkets in California.

    Buoyed by strong holiday sales, Express reported impressive results for its fourth quarter as the company’s turnaround remained on track. The chain issued an upbeat earnings forecast for the full year.

    The specialty retailer reported better-than-expected net income of $56.1 million, or 67 cents per share compared to $41.8 million, or 49 cents per share, in the year-ago period.

    The CEO of 1-800-Flowers.com is stepping down, but leadership of the 40-year-old company is staying in the family.

    The company announced that effective June 30, Jim McCann, founder, chairman and CEO, will transition to the position of executive chairman and Chris McCann, president and Jim McCann's brother, will become CEO. The company says the announcement coincides with the 40th anniversary of the company’s founding and is an integral part of its long-term succession plan.

    AutoZone is hiring more than 10,000 employees for its busiest selling season of the year.

    The retailer and leading distributor of automotive replacement parts and accessories says it will hire more than the new full and part-time employees nationwide through April to ensure its more than 5,100 U.S. stores are staffed and ready to provide great service.

  • Supermarket chain acts local, thinks personal

    In an effort to stay competitive in a field crowded with big players, 27-unit, Minneapolis-based grocery retailer Lunds & Byerlys is creating a highly personalized omnichannel experience.

    Lunds & Byerleys is partnering with omnichannel commerce technology provider Unata to launch a new e-commerce and digital customer engagement program. The seamless experience-based program is currently live in six locations with subsequent stores to be rolled out by the end of March.
