  • Report: Consumer credit-card use bounces back in January

    Atlanta -- A report released Wednesday by First Data Corp., which tracks same-store consumer spending by credit, signature debit, PIN debit, EBT cards and checks at U.S. merchant locations, found that more consumers opted to pay with credit cards in January.

    According to the First Data SpendTrend report for January 2011, transaction growth on credit cards was at a 13-month high in January and year-over-year credit dollar volume growth was the second highest in over a year.

    HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- M&M's brand Pretzel Chocolate Candies were honored with the 2011 Product of the Year in the candy and snacks category by Product of the Year USA, Mars Chocolate North America announced.

  • Gap adds eight more European countries to online presence

    San Francisco -- Gap said Wednesday that it has expanded its Gap and Banana Republic online presence to eight additional European countries through its dedicated European e-commerce sites.

    Gap debuted the dedicated sites in the United Kingdom in August 2010 and then expanded to include nine additional European countries in October 2010. The newest announcement brings the total reach of it European e-commerce business to 18 countries.

  • Passco names regional marketing representative

    Irvine, Calif. -- Passco Cos. LLC announced that Brad McCord has been hired as regional marketing representative for the company.

    McCord will act as an internal licensed wholesaler and work closely with the sales teams and their marketing efforts.

  • Consumer Reports index finds household financial difficulty rising

    YONKERS, N.Y. -- Consumer Reports announced that its Trouble Tracker Index has climbed for the third straight month to 58.7. The index, which tracks the depth and breadth of financial difficulties among households, has climbed up from 54.2 last month and from 53.4 one year ago.

  • Lowe’s announces executive moves, promotions

    Mooresville, N.C. -- Lowe’s Cos. said Wednesday that it has made several key promotions and moves in its human resources, legal, merchandising, logistics and information technology areas.

    Maureen K. Ausura was promoted to executive VP human resources, from senior VP in the same capacity.

    Gaither M. Keener has been promoted to executive VP general counsel, secretary and chief compliance officer, from senior VP in the same capacity. 

    Both will continue reporting to CEO Robert Niblock.

  • Walmart to offer Verizon iPhone at select stores

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Walmart announced that iPhone 4 on the Verizon Wireless network will be available in select Walmart stores starting Feb. 10.  

     "We're excited to bring iPhone 4 on the Verizon Wireless network, one the most anticipated mobile phone launches in recent history, to Walmart customers," said Gary Severson, SVP home entertainment for Walmart U.S. "As customers continue to embrace smart phone technology, we've added nearly 20 smart phone models to our assortment, including the new Verizon Wireless iPhone 4."
