  • Winn-Dixie caters to kosher sect in Miami

    MIAMI, Fla.  — Winn-Dixie has completed the remodeling of its Miami-area store in Aventura that wil better cater to the community's Jewish residents with expanded kosher offerings.

    The remodeled store also featuresa cleaner and more modern and attractive setting, hardwood flooring throughout the produce, deli and bakery departments, and a dedicated area offering free Wi-Fi access and complimentary coffee, the company reported.

  • Sprint, MasterCard, First Data and Citibank team up for Google Wallet mobile payment service

    New York City -- Search engine giant Google announced the launch of Google Wallet, a mobile payment service that allows consumers to pay for goods via their smartphones. The application is currently being field-tested in San Francisco and New York, and will be available to consumers in the summer.

  • Walmart gets green light in South Africa

    It may have taken longer than originally thought, but competition authorities in South Africa cleared the way for Walmart to move forward with its acquisition of Massmart, the company announced Tuesday.

  • Neiman Marcus Q3 income more than doubles

    Dallas -- In another sign that the luxury market is turning around faster than other retailing segments, Neiman Marcus’ third-quarter profit more than doubled.

    The company's net income for the three months ended April 30 rose to $46.2 million, from $18.5 million.

    Revenue rose 10% to $983.8 million, from $895.2 million last year. Same-store sales increased 9.7%.

    Neiman Marcus operates 41 Neiman Marcus stores across the United States, 30 Last Call clearance stores and two Bergdorf Goodman stores in New York.

  • Gordman’s looks to regain groove

    Midwestern department store operator Gordman’s Stores was putting up some big numbers last year, and then in early August it decided to go public. Things are not looking quite as good of late, with first quarter comps weaker than planned and guidance for the remainder of the year lowered.

  • Gap opening outlet store in Italy

    San Francisco -- Gap will enter the Italian outlet center market, opening a namesale store at the Vicolungo Outlet Center near Milan, on June 2.

  • Barneys.com introduces international shipping

    NEW YORK — Barneys New York has announced that its e-commerce website, Barneys.com (www.Barneys.com), has introduced international shipping to 90 countries including Canada, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Australia, and China.

    According to Barneys, international customers will be able to make payments on Barneys.com in their preferred currency with cost-effective international shipping and handling services.
