    Albany, Ore. -- Atlanta-based Jones Lang LaSalle said Tuesday it has been named as the property and leasing manager for Heritage Mall, a 407,354-sq.-ft. regional shopping center located in Albany, Ore.

  • Staples makes big changes to small business offerings

    FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Staples is looking to appeal to more small business customers by offering an expanded selection of printed products through its Copy & Print service. To further entice these customers, through Nov. 12, the company is offering 30% off all purchases of Copy & Print services of $30 or more produced in store, online or by phone.

  • Safeway Q3 profit up 6% on cost controls

    Pleasanton, Calif. -- Safeway reported a 6% rise in fiscal third-quarter profit amid stronger revenue from gasoline sales and cost control efforts. Net income rose to $130.2 million for the period ended Sept. 10, up from $122.8 million, or 33 cents per share, a year ago.

    Revenue rose 7% to $10.06 billion, from $9.4 billion. Same-store sales, excluding fuel, rose 1.5%
     

  • PetSmart raises guidance ahead of analyst presentation

    PHOENIX — Ahead of its analyst and investor presentation Thursday, PetSmart announced that it is raising its third quarter guidance.

    The company said it now expects earnings per share for the third quarter to range from 46 cents to 48 cents. Initial guidance called for an EPS range of 41 cents to 45 cents. For the full year, earnings per share guidance is increasing to $2.46 to $2.52 from a previous range of $2.40 to $2.48.

  • Sears Holdings equipping store associates with iPads and iPod Touch devices

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Holdings has begun the staged roll out of Apple iPads and Apple iPod Touch devices, starting with nearly 450 stores nationwide. The move is designed enhance the relationship between customers and associates while improving the overall in-store shopping experience, Sears said.

  • Wal-Mart reverses comp sales decline to cut U.S. cap spending

    Rogers, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores had positive news for analysts and investors gathered for the retailer’s annual meeting on Wednesday in Rogers, Ark. The chain said its same-store sales rose in July, August and September, reversing a two –year slump.  It also announced that it plans to cut its capital spending in the United States, even as it increased cap spending abroad,  as it continues to shift toward building smaller stores.
