  • Sears hires former Brookstone chief executive to lead merchandising

    New York City -- Sears Holdings Corp. hired Ron Boire, the former president and chief executive of Brookstone Inc. to lead its merchandising and retail stores for both the Sears and Kmart brands. Prior to Brookstone, Boire served as president, U.S. Toys, North America for Toys “R” Us from 2006 to 2009, where he was in charge of merchandising, marketing and operations

    "We are in the midst of a transformation of our business, from top to bottom...," Sears CEO Lou D'Ambrosio said in a statement on Tuesday.

  • Sears brings in a new merchandising leader

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Sears Holdings hired Ron Boire as EVP and chief merchandising officer. Boire, who previously was president and CEO of Brookstone, will lead merchandising and retail stores for both the Sears and Kmart brands.  

    He will work with our leadership team to better serve our customers and Shop Your Way Rewards Members by integrating their experiences across our stores, online, services, and mobile capabilities, the company said.

    Santa Ana, Calif. -- The struggling housing market, weak job growth and ongoing consumer deleveraging caused the retail market to lag other property sectors in 2011, according to Grubb & Ellis Co.’s 2012 National Real Estate Forecast, which predicts a year of slow but continued growth for all commercial real estate property sectors.

  • Holiday Deadline Extension: Retail Store of the Year Design Competition

    New York City – Due to the holiday rush, Chain Store Age has extended the deadline for its 30th annual Retail Store of the Year Design Competition. Deadline submission is Tuesday, January 3, 2012.

    Eligible projects are those completed between November 2010 and December 2011. Chain Store Age invites design firms, retailers architects, and suppliers to submit entries,

    Twenty-one competition categories are featured, ranging from supermarkets and discount/mass merchants to specialty stores and pop-up stores.

  • ComScore: Holiday online spending up 15% to $35.3 billion

    Reston, Va. -- Consumers spent some $35.3 online from Nov. 1 through Dec. 26, up 15% from last year, according to ComScore Inc.

  • There’s always next year for online opportunity

    The difficulties Target experienced with the relaunch of its website early last fall and subsequent fall off in traffic couldn’t have come at a worse time, as total retail online sales hit new highs during the holiday season.

    Online sales increased 15% to $35.3 billion From Nov. 1 through Dec. 25 compared with the same time period the prior year, according to the online measurement firm comScore.

  • E-commerce survey: Amazon tops in holiday service; Gap lags

    Ann Arbor, Mich. -- Survey results released Wednesday by customer experience analytics firm ForeSee found that Amazon has continued its trend of high customer service, while other online retail experiences suffered in 2011.

    According to ForeSee’s annual Holiday E-Retail Satisfaction Index,
    Amazon climbed two points to score 88 on the study’s 100-point scale, registering the highest score from any retailer in 14 consecutive studies.
