  • GNC to establish branded presence on Sam's Club shelves

    PITTSBURGH — GNC recently extended its relationship with Sam's Club, the company announced in conjunction with its second-quarter results.

    Beginning in third quarter 2012, GNC's presence in all Sam's Club locations will incorporate established shelf space with branded signage, adding to the existing rotational assortment program.

    PLANO, Texas — When JCPenney first announced its “fair and square” pricing strategy back in January with a great deal of hoopla and fanfare -- complete with a NYC media event attended by 700 people -- there was much hope that former Apple executive CEO Ron Johnson and then president Michael Francis, formerly at Target, would be able to bring some of their retail magic to the stagnant retailer.

  • Cabela's delivers strong revenue growth in Q2

    SIDNEY, Neb. — Revenues rose 11.6% to $627.3 million at Cabela's during its second quarter, consisting of a 16.9% increase in store revenue, a 0.7% decrease in direct revenue and a 12.8% increase in financial services revenue. Same-store sales rose 4.7%.

    Net income for the quarterr increased to $33.9 million compared with $21.7 million and earnings per diluted share were 47 cents compared with 31 cents, each compared with the year ago quarter.

  • Wal-Mart sued by disabled over hard-to-reach payment machines

    San Francisco -- A federal lawsuit against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. was filed on Wednesday, by disability rights advocates claiming that payment machines are inaccessible to California customers in wheelchairs and on scooters.

  • Crazy 8 to open at Independence Mall

    Wilmington, N.C. -- Madison Marquette Retail Services, which leases and manages Independence Mall – in Wilmington, N.C. – on behalf of owner Centro Properties Group, said that Gymboree Corp.’s Crazy 8 brand will open a new store at the mall this fall.

    The 2,465-sq.-ft. store will join Aeropostale, The Children’s Place, Gymboree and Justice in catering to Independence Mall’s teen, tween and children’s clothing shoppers.
     

  • Shopko names CMO

    Green Bay, Wis. -- Shopko said Thursday that it has named Nancy Altman as senior VP, chief marketing officer for the general merchandise chain.

    Altman, who was previously VP marketing for Ulta, joins Shopko as it is in the process of converting more than 160 Pamida stores to its new Shopko Hometown format as part of a merger with Pamida that was finalized earlier this year.
