    SEATTLE — Mercent, a technology company that enables retailers to profitably reach and convert more shoppers online, announced that it has appointed Jacqueline Borges as its VP partnerships.

  • Survey: Consumers more trusting of sharing information with retailers than social networks

    San Mateo, Calif. -- A survey by The E-tailing Group and MyBuys found that consumers are more comfortable sharing data with retailers than they are with social networks, especially if it enhances the shopping experience.

  • Integration continues at Toys'R'Us

    WAYNE, N.J. — Toys"R"Us continues on its path to bring its Toys"R"Us and Babies"R"Us stores under one roof as part of its integrated store strategy. The company announced that by the end of the year it will have opened eight new stores and transformed 13 existing locations to the side-by-side model in 2012. In adding eight new stores and renovating 13 existing locations, the company will create more than 400 new jobs across the country.

  • Coach Q4 income tops expectations, but sales miss

    New York -- Coach Inc. reported Tuesday that net income for the quarter ended June 30 rose 24% to $251.4 million, from $202.5 million in the same period last year, topping Wall Street projections.

    The company’s revenue in the quarter rose 12% to $1.16 billion, below analysts’ expectations of $1.2 billion. Slowing growth at the company’s factory-outlet stores impacted sales. Coach reinstated coupons at its factory stores late in the quarter amid increasing discounting among retailers.

    J.C. Penney Co.’s visual transformation has begun. The company has rolled out three shop concepts to nearly 700 stores nationwide. The shops, the first wave of many more to come, are dedicated to three brands: Levi’s, I Jeans by Buffalo, and The Original Jean Co.

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sam's Club announced that Dale Talde, celebrity chef and owner of Talde and the soon-to-be opened Pork Slope Restaurant, both in New York, joins the Sam's Club Simply Delicious Chef Brigade to help families serve up healthy, restaurant-quality meals in their own backyard.

  • Jenn-Air to sponsor L.A. Food and Wine festival

    BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Luxury appliance maker Jenn-Air has signed on as the exclusive major appliance sponsor of the second annual Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival.

    This 2012 Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival will feature more than 50 events including wine seminars, unique dining experiences, and cooking demonstrations. The event will host more than 130 celebrated chefs and 200 acclaimed wineries, with proceeds raised benefiting St. Vincent Meals on Wheels.

  • Rona turns down $1.9 billion acquisition bid by Lowe’s

    Lowe’s made an offer, but Rona refused.

    The two North American home improvement giants will continue to operate as competitors in Canada, where Lowe’s has been growing organically for the past several years amid rumors that just such an acquisition play was in the cards.
