    Broomfield, Colo. -- TCBY, The Country's Best Yogurt will open a flagship in Broomfield, Colo., which will also serve as the company's training center for its domestic and international franchisees.

  • Moody’s: Retailers that opened early on Thanksgiving night gained advantage

    New York -- Retailers that opened early on Thanksgiving evening gained an advantage and that promotional activity was about on par with last year, according to a new Moody’s report, “Thanksgiving Weekend: The Early Bird Gets the Worm.”

  • Comp momentum intact at Kroger

    Kroger extended its same store sales winning streak to 36 consecutive quarters and reported better than expected profits Thursday.

    The grocer reported a third quarter adjusted profit of 46 cents a share that exceeded analysts’ consensus estimate by three cents and said its identical store sales grew by 3.2%. Total sales, including fuel, increased 5.9% to $21.8 billion

  • New Denny’s in Las Vegas has in-house wedding chapel

    Las Vegas -- Denny has opened a  flagship diner, called "Denny's on Fremont," on Freemont Street in downtown Las Vegas. Among other attractions, the one-of-a-kind diner: boasts an in-house wedding chapel.

  • November same-store hurt by Hurricane Sandy

    New York -- Many retailers blamed Hurricane Sandy for weak sales in November, although some companies were buoyed later in the month by a long Thanksgiving weekend.

    Eighteen retailers reported that sales in November through last Saturday were up 1.7% compared with the year-ago period, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers. That is below the anticipated forecast for a 4.5% to 5.5% gain.

  • Kroger profit leaps in Q3, raises forecast

    Cincinnati -- Kroger Co. reported Thursday that net income for the quarter ended Nov. 3 rose to $316.5 million, compared with $195.9 million in the year-ago period.

    Total sales rose 6% to $21.81 billion, beating Wall Street’s expected revenue of $21.55 billion.

    Same-store sales rose 3.2%.

     

  • Fresh Market to open at the Village at Nellie Gail Ranch

    Laguna Hills, Calif. -- Vintage Real Estate announced that The Fresh Market will open at its neighborhood shopping center The Village at Nellie Gail Ranch in Laguna Hills, Calif., which is undergoing a $17 million renovation and expansion.  

    The gourmet grocer will open a 21,000-sq.-ft. store in summer 2014.

    The expansion and renovation of Village at Nellie Gail Ranch includes new facades, storefronts, refreshed landscaping and outdoor gathering spots. With the expansion, the center will total approximately 100,000 sq. ft.
