  • Starbucks’ cup will runneth over

    NEW YORK — If you thought Starbucks was everywhere already, wait a few years, as the company has announced plans to open 3,000 more stores in the Americas alone in the next five years.

    Senior executives at the company outlined details of its growth agenda across its global retail, emerging brands and CPG channels at its biennial investor conference this week.

  • QVC to acquire Oodle to fuel social commerce

    West Chester, Pa. -- QVC announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, California Voices, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Oodle, a social commerce leader that runs the Oodle Marketplace application on Facebook. The acquisition is expected to close by Dec. 31.

  • Bruno Mars exclusive edition of “Unorthodox Jukebox” right on Target

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target has teamed up with Bruno Mars to deliver an exclusive edition of the pop star’s sophomore album, “Unorthodox Jukebox.”

    The album will be available at Target stores and online beginning Tuesday, December 11, and will feature five bonus tracks. Pre-orders are available now at Target.com/ExclusiveArtists.

  • ShopperTrak: Foot traffic up 3.7% year-over-year for post-Thanksgiving week

    Chicago -- A report on Wednesday from ShopperTrak showed that retail foot traffic increased 3.7% and sales increased 2.3% year-over-year for the week beginning Nov. 25, ending Dec. 1.

    This represented a 28.8% decline in traffic and 22.4% decline in sales from the 2012 Black Friday shopping week.  

  • Walgreens sales dip in November

    Deerfield, Ill. -- Walgreen Co. reported Wednesday that sales for November dipped 3.9% to $5.85 billion, compared with $6.09 billion for the same month in fiscal 2012.

    Total front-end sales decreased 0.3% and same-store front-end sales decreased 1.7%.

    Walgreens opened 39 stores during November, including 10 relocations and closed one.

     

  • Whole Foods to open at Towers Plaza

    Melrose, Mass. -- Charter Realty & Development Corp. announced that shortly after acquiring Towers Plaza in Melrose, Mass., it has signed a 20-year lease for 29,980 sq. ft. to Whole Foods Market.

    Whole Foods will move into a space currently occupied by Johnny’s Foodmaster. The space will undergo a major renovation that will coincide with Charter’s renovation of the balance of the center.

     

  • Mason out as Tesco aborts Fresh & Easy

    Tesco arrived in the U.S. in 2007 amid great fanfare with its first Fresh & Easy stores. Now, just five years later, the 30 year Tesco veteran in charge of the 200 unit operation is gone and the company is looking to unload the stores.
