    Major tenants: Whole Foods Market will anchor the project. Regency is currently negotiating with prospective specialty retail, restaurant and health and wellness tenants.

    Status: Proposed start is spring 2014, with completion planned for fall 2014.

  • Rite Aid bolsters Wellness Ambassador program with new position

    Rite Aid has promoted Karen Staniforth, VP pharmacy for the chain's mid-Atlantic division, to group VP pharmacy initiatives and clinical services.

    In the new position, Staniforth will oversee Rite Aid's strategy around the Wellness Ambassadors, specially trained staff who work in its Wellness stores, answering customers' questions about health and wellness products and directing them to the pharmacy as needed. She will report to SVP pharmacy Dan Miller.

  • NRF: Black Friday weekend spending down 2.8%

    New York -- Overall spending over Black Friday weekend was expected to hit $57.4 billion, according to the National Retail Federation, which is down 2.8% from last year’s $59.1 billion. It was the first spending decline on a Black Friday weekend since 2009. But there was some good news for retailers: Online sales soared over the holiday weekend.

    The NRF estimated that 141 million Americans shopped during the four-day weekend, up 1.2% from a year ago.

But as I look 10 years into the future, I think we’re actually in the early days of not just more change, but wholesale revolution, too. “Revolution” is a strong — and possibly overused — term. Why are the next 10 years different? Fundamentally, our customer has changed more in the past three years than in the past 30 and the pace of change is poised to accelerate in the coming decade.

    Of the many reasons retail IT professionals attend the annual National Retail Federation (NRF) Convention & Expo each January in New York City, keeping current with all the latest industry topics and trends is surely at the top. Each year, RetailROI independently offers SuperSaturday, a one-day event held the Saturday before the official Sunday kickoff to the NRF Convention.

  • WinCo opens Arizona store Dec. 5; plans Texas entry in 2014

    Boise, Idaho -- WinCo Foods will open a store in Glibert, Ariz., on Dec. 5. The supermarket occupies approximately 97,000 sq. ft. and will include WinCo's new red and black decor package that creates a solid, clean feel and coordinates with the hundreds of new WinCo Foods private label products the company has recently introduced.
