  • ODP lone retailer in Top 10 Newsweek green list

    NEW YORK — For the second year in a row, Office Depot was recognized in Newsweek magazine’s annual “Green Rankings” as the greenest large retailer in America. Across all industry sectors, Office Depot was ranked as America’s 8th greenest large company, a move up of 10 spots from last year, and was the only retailer in the U.S. Top 10 list.

    Office Depot not only achieved the highest aggregate green score in the U.S. retail industry, but also led in Environmental Management, and disclosure of performance data.

    NEW YORK — HSN announced that it has partnered with Conde Nast to create a new collection of culinary products under the Bon Appetit label that will be available exclusively via all of HSN's sales platforms including television, online and mobile. 

  • Target faces new pricing pressure

    Target is facing new holiday pricing pressure as Walmart announced the launch of its Christmas price guarantee.

    Customers who purchase eligible products at Walmart anytime between Nov. 1 and Dec. 25, and then find those same products advertised for less at another store, will receive a Walmart gift card for the difference through Dec. 25. 

  • Walmart guarantees Christmas savings

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart announced that it is helping ensure customers pay the lowest price on holiday gifts with the launch of its Christmas price guarantee.

    Customers who purchase eligible products at Walmart anytime between Nov. 1 and Dec. 25, and then find those same products advertised for less at another store, will receive a Walmart gift card for the difference through Dec. 25. 

  • Fresh & Easy to host holiday food drive in November

    EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Fresh & Easy will kick off its annual in-store holiday food drive across all of its stores next month in honor of National Food Bank Week.

    From mid-November trough Dec. 31, customers can donate canned and boxed goods in specially designated boxes at Fresh & Easy stores in Arizona, California and Nevada.

    Last holiday season, the retailer and its customers donated more than $1 million in food to local food banks and charities.

  • Walmart cutting back on healthcare coverage for new employees

    NEW YORK — Wal-Mart Stores is cutting back healthcare coverage for new part-time workers and significantly raising premiums for many new full-time associates, the New York Times reported. It is a major turnaround for the retailer which, a few years back, under heavy criticism that many of its 1.4 million workers could not afford or did not qualify for coverage, expanded coverage for employees and their families.

  • JCPenney helps dress vets for civilian life

    PLANO, Texas — JCPenney and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, the nation's first and largest non-profit, nonpartisan organization for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, announced that they are joining forces to provide America's newest generation of military veterans with more than $1 million in apparel and footwear to start new civilian wardrobes. 

  • Barnes & Noble searches for new CFO

    NEW YORK — Barnes & Noble has announced that Joseph Lombardi, CFO, has resigned from his current position, but will remain a non-officer employee until mid-2012 to assist in the transition as the company undertakes an executive search for a new CFO. The company also announced the appointment of Allen Lindstrom, VP corporate controller, to interim CFO until a replacement is named.
