  • Consumables and pharmacy buoys Fred's June comps

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Fred's Super Dollar reported $187.7 million in sales for the five weeks ended July 6, up 3% as compared to the same period a year ago. Comparable store sales for the month increased 4.5%.

  • Phillips Edison-Arc acquires Salinas, Calif., center

    Cincinnati -- Phillips Edison-ARC Shopping Center REIT Inc. has acquired Boronda Plaza in Salinas, Calif. Food 4 Less, a subsidiary of Kroger, anchors the 93,071-sq.-ft. shopping center, which is 98% occupied.

  • Dunkin’ Donuts opens 500th NYC restaurant

    New York -- The largest national retailer in New York City by store count, Dunkin’ Donuts has just inched further ahead with the opening of its 500th city location, a co-branded restaurant with Baskin-Robbins.

    Located in Times Square, the restaurant features new Dunkin’ Donuts’ and Baskin-Robbins’ design concepts such as digital menu displays, updated furniture and lighting, electrical outlets, bar top areas for smartphones and computers and free Wi-Fi Internet access.

  • Next-gen Build-A-Bear opens in Easton Town Center

    Columbus, Ohio -- Build-A-Bear Workshop Inc. has relocated to open a next-generation store in Easton Town Center’s new 40,000-sq.-ft. family friendly Fenlon Square, according to Stein + Associates and The Georgetown Company co-developers of Easton Town Center.

  • ‘Strong’ same-store sales for Stein Mart in June

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Stein Mart reported total sales for the five-week period ended July 6, of $109 million, an increase of 2.6% from $106.3 for the prior-year period. Comparable store sales increased 6.5%.

  • PriceSmart Q3 net income misses expectations

    San Diego -- Warehouse club operator PriceSmart reported Thursday that profit for the quarter ended May 31 rose 18% to $18.5 million, compared with $15.7 million in the year-ago period but missing Wall Street estimates.

    Revenue rose 13% to $571.7 million, beating analysts’ expected $568.6 million in sales. Same-store sales rose 9.7%.

    Called the Bullseye University Digital Experience, the multichannel marketing effort features popular YouTube personalities in a life-size "dorm" and allows people to buy items from the "dorm" between Monday and next Thursday and enter contests to win college gear.
