  • Fomer Sports Authority president joins Hilco Trading division

    New York -- Dick Lynch has joined the SD Retail Consulting division of Hilco Trading as SVP merchandising and strategy.

    In his new role, Lynch will be responsible for helping retailers create shareholder value through process, organization and technology enhancements in the key merchandising and inventory management functions. He will also play a key role in assisting management, owners and lenders in shareholder value creation assignments.

  • Study: 76% of women prefer in-store shopping over smartphone

    Boston -- Research findings released Thursday by mobile-retail marketer Swirl found that a full 76% of women prefer shopping in stores over shopping via their smartphones.

    “What Women Want When Apparel Shopping,” which polled 1,000 women shoppers, also revealed that 53% of women have between one and five shopping apps on their smartphones. Yet, still, they opt for the store experience.

  • Office Depot debuts citizenship site for Earth Month

    Boca Raton, Fla. -- Office Depot announced Thursday that it has debuted a new corporate citizenship website – Officedepotcitizenship.com – in recognition of Earth Month.

    The site provides information about the company’s various initiatives, including ethics, diversity and the environment, presented in an interactive format.

  • Walmart Neighborhood Market to open at Villa Monaco

    Denver -- Brixmor Property Group said that Walmart Neighborhood Market will open a 55,669-sq.-ft. store at Villa Monaco, located in Denver.

    The addition of this market will revitalize the shopping center, said Brixmor, attracting new retailers, restaurants and services to the center, and providing the community residents a convenient place to shop within their own neighborhood.  

  • Garden City Center launches phase II of revitalization

    Cranston, R.I. -- Boston-based The Wilder Cos. said Thursday that the second phase of the multi-phased strategy to expand, reconfigure and redevelop Garden City Center, in Cranston, R.I., is officially underway.

    The project involves turning vacant former large-format retail spaces into a mix of mid-sized and smaller specialty retailers, including the state’s first Corner Bakery Café which signed a multi-year lease.

  • Jones Lang LaSalle adds veteran team to brokerage group

    Dallas -- Jones Lang LaSalle announced it has added the veteran team of Robin Smith and Lance W. Taylor to its retail brokerage team, both as senior VPs and both charged with assisting the firm’s growing client base of both retailers and landlords throughout the Southwest.

    The Smith-Taylor team brings with them a two million sq.-ft. portfolio of retail assets that they currently lease on behalf of multiple owners.

  • RadioShack beefs up executive team; new prototypes in works

    Fort Worth, Texas -- RadioShack Corp. formally announced that it has named two new leaders to its senior management team. Michael DeFazio has been named SVP – store concepts, and Jennifer Warren has been named SVP and chief marketing officer.
