  • Walmart de Mexico names new CEO

    Walmart is turning to the head of its Latin American business to take over as CEO of Walmart de Mexico.

    Enrique Ostale, who is chairman of the board of the retailer's Latin American business, will take over as Mexico chief executive on Jan. 1. The position will oversee Walmart's operations in Mexico and Central America.

  • Bi-Lo CEO to leave

    New York -- Supermarket operator Bi-Lo Holdings LLC, parent of the Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie chains, said that Randall Onstead will step as president and CEO, effective March 1. The company has identified a successor, who will be named at a later date.

    Onstead has been with Bi-Lo, and its parent company Lone Star Holdings, since 2008 when he was named chairman of Bi-Lo, which was then a standalone supermarket company. Under his tenure, the company went though and successfully emerged from Chapter 11 protection after which it went on to flourish and expand.

  • Stop & Shop honored with LEED Silver for three stores in Massachusetts

    Quincy, Mass. -- The Super Stop & Shop stores in Hyannis, Hyde Park and Wayland, Massachusetts have each received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Efficient Design) silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. (Stop & Shop has 13 superstores, which are LEED certified.)

  • Save-A-Lot grows sales, not profits

    A strong 6.9 percent identical store sales increase at Supervalu’s Save-A-Lot stores proved a drain on parent company profits in the third quarter.

  • Supervalu tops expectations as profit more than doubles; sales up across segments

    Minneapolis -- Supervalu Inc.’s third-quarter profit more than doubled as the supermarket chain experienced sales growth in all three of its business segments. Its results beat analysts' expectations.

    Supervalu reported an overall profit of $79 million for the quarter ended Nov. 29, up from $31 million a year earlier. Revenue rose 4.8% to $4.2 billion.

  • Report: Former Pathmark CEO dies at 85

    Leonard Lieberman, former chairman and CEO of Supermarkets General, which owns Pathmark, died at his home in Hoboken, N.J., on Jan. 2, according to an obituary on NJ.com. He was 85.

    According to the obituary, his wife, Arlene, said the cause of death was heart failure.

  • Save Mart Supermarkets in multi-year agreement with Revionics

    Austin, Texas -- Revionics announced that Save Mart Supermarkets, which operates 221 stores under the banners of Save Mart, S-Mart Foods, Lucky and FoodMaxx, has entered into a multi-year agreement for Revionics’ SaaS-based price optimization solution and its advanced analytics services, including the key value item (KVI) analysis and store cluster analysis.

  • Ex-Walmart de Mexico CEO to head Grupo Lala

    It didn't take long for former Walmart de Mexico executive Scot Rank to land a new job.

    Mexican dairy company Grupo Lala has appointed Rank, the former chief executive officer of Walmart de Mexico, as its new chief executive to replace retiring top boss Arquimedes Celis, the company said.

    Celis, who served as CEO for 14 years, will retire on June 30 but continue as a board member at the company, one of Latin America's largest dairy producers.
