  • Pitney Bowes survey: 49% of Americans shopping online earlier for holiday

    Stamford, Conn. -- Half of Americans (49%) plan to shop online earlier for gifts this holiday season, with the main reason being to ensure they receive their packages on time (63%), according to a survey by Pitney Bowes.

  • Kantar Retail: Target Canada beats Walmart Canada on pricing

    New York -- Target Canada is aggressively repositioning to drive its price value, according to a basket pricing study by Kantar Retail.

    “Target’s price leadership in Canada has clearly shifted,” noted Robin Sherk, director of retail insights, Kantar Retail, and contributor to the study. “We found that the price of Target Canada’s overall basket was 3.9% less expensive than Walmart’s. In our initial study, the retailers’ basket values were effectively even.”

  • Boot Barn looking to win beyond the west

    Two acquisitions in two years blended with organic growth have allowed Boot Barn to nearly double in size and lay claim to being America’s largest western and work wear retailer.

    Tractor Supply with its more than 1,300 stores and Walmart might dispute that assertion — depending how western and work wear are defined — but there is no denying that Boot Barn is a retailer on the move with backing from growth oriented private equity owners.

  • DD’s Discounts opens Orlando store

    Dublin, Calif. – DD’s Discounts, a division of Ross Stores Inc., will open a new store in Orlando on Sept. 27. The store is located in the Century Plaza. 

    Including this new location, DD’s Discounts will operate approximately 150 locations in 13 states and is on schedule to complete its expansion plan to open approximately 20 locations in 2014. Together, Ross Dress for Less and DD’s Discounts currently operate more than 1,300 off-price apparel and home fashion stores in 33 states, the District of Columbia and Guam.

  • Safeway seeks to buy out senior notes

    Pleasanton, Calif. – Safeway Inc. is offering to pay cash consent fees to holders of three series of senior notes due in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Note holders who accept the fees would release Safeway of the obligation to repurchase the notes at 1% interest when its expected fourth quarter merger with Albertson’s LLC occurs.

  • Divaris completes four transactions in Southeastern Virginia

    Virginia Beach, Va. -- Divaris Real Estate, Inc. announced the completion of four retail transactions, totaling 21,688 sq. ft.

    Dollar Tree renewed its lease for 9,663 sq. ft. at Williamsburg Marketcenter, located at 6610 Mooretown Road, in Williamsburg.

    Castaways Inc. leased 5,025 sq. ft. of retail space at the Divaris-leased and -managed Lynnhaven Green Shopping Center, located at 1505 Lynnhaven Parkway, in Virginia Beach.

  • dd's Discounts to open new store in Phoenix

    Dublin, Calif. -- dd’s Discounts, a division of Ross Stores, Inc. will open a new store in Arizona, on Sept. 27. The store is located in the Squaw Peak Plaza in Phoenix.  

    Including this new location, dd’s Discounts operates approximately 150 locations in 13 states and is on schedule to complete its expansion plan to open approximately 20 locations in 2014.
