  • Kroger taps Marlene Stewart as president of Dillons

    Cincinnati -- The Kroger Co. announced that Marlene Stewart has been promoted to president of the company's Dillons division. She replaces Joe Grieshaber, who was recently named president of Kroger's Columbus division.

    Stewart, 59, currently serves as VP of merchandising at QFC, based in Seattle.

  • Walmart launches anti-hunger campaign

    Walmart is looking to increase its support of community food programs with a new "Fight Hunger. Spark Change." campaign this spring.

    The national initiative will invite the public to take action in the fight against hunger. Working with some of the nation’s leading food companies –- Campbell’s, ConAgra Foods, General Mills, Kellogg Company, Kraft, and Unilever–- Walmart is offering the 140 million customers that shop at its stores each week three easy ways to help families in need in their local communities.

  • Century 21 to expand beyond Northeast with store in Florida

    New York -- Legendary Manhattan off-price retailer Century 21 will open its first store outside its Northeast home base, at Sawgrass Mills, Sunrise, Florida. The 85,000-sq.-ft. store is set to open in the fall of 2016.

  • Omnichannel firm hires ex-Walmart exec

    Omnichannel solutions provider RichRelevance has hired a former WalmartLabs executive to serve as its chief product officer.

    Mahesh Tyagarajan will be responsible for product strategy and management, engineering and cloud operation and infrastructure. The company also named microstrategy and business objects veteran John Dickson as vice president of client services, where he will drive the expansion of RichRelevance’s position as the dominant provider of large-scale omnichannel personalization deployments around the world.

  • Party City to raise up to $372 million in IPO

    The largest retailer of party supplies in the United States, Party City, has filed paperwork for an initial public offering of its shares.

    The company, which sells party supplies, decorations and costumes, said it expects the offering of 21.9 million shares to be priced at between $15 and $17 per share.

    Party City Holdco Inc. is expected to be valued at nearly $2 billion in its initial public offering, the first by a U.S. retailer this year.

  • EPA honors Kohl’s, Staples for sustained excellence in energy efficiency

    Washington, D.C. -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded its 2015 Energy Star Partner of the Year — Sustained Excellence Award to Kohl’s Department Stores and Staples in recognition of the companies’ continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency initiatives.

  • GBT Realty acquires prime retail site near Austin

    Austin, Texas -- GBT Realty Corp. announced its acquisition of a prime retail site in the heart of one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas and the U.S. Located in Cedar Park, Texas – a community that has grown over 400% since 2004 – Lakeline Commons is a 1.43-acre site that is shadow-anchored by Target and adjacent to The Home Depot.  

    GBT acquired the north Austin outparcel for $1.6 million on March 19 from Regions Bank.  No additional terms are available.

  • Former WalmartLabs exec joins RichRelevance

    San Francisco — Omnichannel solutions provider RichRelevance has hired Mahesh Tyagarajan, a former WalmartLabs executive, to serve as its chief product officer.
