  • Another BRIC in the e-commerce wall

    Chicago -- During a morning keynote session on Wednesday at the Internet Retailer Conference in Chicago, former Vice President and self-described “recovering politician” Al Gore related a couple of interesting facts about how the Internet is shaping modern commerce. First, he stated that when an online network increases in size its value increases by a squared amount, so that for example a network that doubles its number of users quadruples in value.

  • Stirling Properties and JCH Development to develop Magnolia Marketplace

    New Orleans -- Stirling Properties and JCH Development have announced a joint venture to develop the first 6,000-sq. ft. building of Magnolia Marketplace Shopping Center in New Orleans at the intersection of South Claiborne Avenue and Fourth Street. A second phase of the development will commence this fall at South Claiborne and Toledano.

  • Apax rue21 purchase draws claims, investigation

    New York – Law firm Harwood Feffer LLP is launching an investigation into claims against the board of directors of rue21 Inc. regarding the proposed purchase of the company by Apax Partners. On May 23, rue21 announced a definitive agreement for Apax to buy it, with stockholders receiving $42 in cash per share.

  • SoHo mixed-use building sold for $48.5 million

    New York -- RKF said it has arranged the sale of an 18,850-sq.-ft. mixed-use building located at 138 Spring St. in Manhattan's SoHo district.

    The building encompasses 2,000 sq. ft. on the ground floor and 2,600 sq. ft. on the lower level, all occupied by high-end eyewear retailer ILORI. The balance consists of 14,250 sq. ft. of full-floor commercial loft space.

  • Office Depot to sell joint venture in Latin American operation

    Boca Raton, Fla. -- Office Depot has reached an agreement to sell its 50% stake in Office Depot de Mexico S.A. de C.V. to its joint venture partner Grupo Gigante, S.A.B. de C.V. for roughly $690 million in cash.

    Office Depot de Mexico, which was founded in 1994 as a joint partnership between Office Depot and Grupo Gigante, has more than 248 stores throughout Mexico and Central America and more than $1.1 billion in annual sales.

  • Joint real estate equity fund acquires Wisconsin power center: Plaza 173

    Brookfield, Wis. -- A joint real estate fund formed by Innovative Capital Advisors and HSA Commercial Real Estate recently purchased the 92,000-sq.-ft. Plaza 173 power center in Brookfield, Wis., in a competitive auction.

    Tenants include Dunham’s Sports, Men’s Wearhouse, Famous Footwear and Kessler Jewelers.

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods holds grand opening at Alliance Town Center

    Fort Worth, Texas -- Dick’s Sporting Goods is now open at Alliance Town Center in North Fort Worth, Texas. During the May 31 through June 2 grand opening ceremonies for the 50,000-sq.-ft. Phase II anchor, co-developer Trademark Property Co., announced plans to add 237,000-sq.-ft. of retail and restaurant space to the center.

    “With Dick’s opening, we are well positioned to complete the current phase and proceed with our main-street lifestyle expansion,” said Trademark CEO Terry Montesi.

  • Schimenti breaks ground on center to house all Bed Bath & Beyond brands

    Ridgefield, Conn. -- Schimenti Construction Company breaks ground on a $15 million retail shopping development in the Deptford Town Center shopping center in Deptford, N.J. The one-story 100,000-sq-ft. building will be the first to include every Bed Bath & Beyond brand under one roof: Bed Bath & Beyond, Christmas Tree Shops, buybuy Baby and Harmon Face Values.
