  • Recap: Retailers talk e-commerce, and more, at RILA conference

    Retailers are finding unlikely camaraderie in their quest for greater market share: their competitors. With a handful of e-commerce giants continuing their stronghold on consumer pocketbooks, this year’s RILA (Retail Industry Leaders Association) Retail Supply Chain Conference allowed ‘big box’ and traditional retail leaders to come together in pursuit of new ways to stay ahead.   
  • Retailer continues Canadian expansion

    Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th announced plans for two new stores in Canada.   The retailer plans to open a location at CF Markville in Markham, Ontario. The approximately 27,000 sq. ft. store is scheduled to open in 2018.    “Ontario is a key market for Saks Off 5th in Canada and we’re excited to continue to grow our presence there,” commented Jonathan Greller, president, Saks Off 5th and Gilt, which are part of Hudson’s Bay Company.  
  • Brixmor buys grocery-anchored center in Ann Arbor

    Brixmor Property Group has purchased Arborland Center, a 404,000-sq.-ft. center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for $102 million. The center is anchored by Kroger and Nordstrom Rack and is situated between the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University.

  • The retailer with the best customer experience is…

    Supermarkets and fast-casual restaurant brands took the top positions in an annual ranking of customer experience. Publix, Chick-fil-A, and H-E-B earned top three positions in Temkin Group’s 2017 Temkin Experience Ratings, a cross-industry benchmark of customer experience. Publix had a score of 84%, closely followed by Chick-fil-A and H-E-B, which both scored 83% in the seventh annual rating.
  • Nordstrom expanding important employee benefit

    New parents working at Nordstrom are about to get a break.   Starting May 1, the department store retailer will offer up to 12 weeks of fully paid leave to birth mothers, and up to six weeks of fully paid leave to other new parents, the Seattle Times reported.    Nordstrom’s current maternity leave policy is six weeks of disability paid at 60% for birth mothers.
  • Discounter uses machine learning to stay 'on Target' with shopper demand

    Target’s omnichannel journey may have started five years ago, but newly-emerging digital touchpoints continue to change the game.   By leveraging machine learning to tap into customer demand, the mass merchandiser is defining which touchpoints are not only valuable, but influencing its shoppers’ paths-to-purchase. The initiative was discussed at the “Determining New Omni-KPIs To Hit Goals And Key Drivers” session at eTail West 2017, in Palm Springs, California, Feb. 27-March 2.

    KAI Total Pavement Management was recognized with Best Parking Lot Pavement Project award at the 2017 National Pavement Expo awards ceremony.   KAI Total Pavement Management received the award for the parking improvements project at the Target store in Kalispell, Montana.
