  • Macy’s executive moving to CVS

    New York City -- CVS Caremark announced that Mark Cosby has been appointed president of CVS/pharmacy, effective Oct. 1. He formerly served as president of stores for Macy’s.

    “We’re delighted that Mark is joining our team,” Larry Merlo, CEO of CVS Caremark (NYSE: CVS) said in a news release. “His valuable experience at major retailers in operations and strategic planning makes him an excellent choice to lead our retail business going forward.”

  • Casual Male to open 13 additional DXL stores by yearend

    Canton, Mass. -- Casual Male Retail Group continues to roll out its DestinationXL format, with the opening of its eighth store, in Fairless Hills, Pa.

    DXL is an all-inclusive destination that encompasses Casual Male’s four existing apparel businesses, Casual Male XL, Rochester Big & Tall, Shoes XL and B&T Direct.

    The company plans to open up to 13 DXL stores during the balance of 2011, another 20-30 stores during 2012 and approximately 100 stores over a four to five year period.

  • Lowe’s to buy back $5B of stock

    Mooresville, N.C. -- Lowe’s Cos. on Monday said it has been authorized to buy back up to $5 billion of its common stock over the next two-to-three years.

    In a statement, the company said it expects to use the full amount over the next two to three years. The new repurchase authorization from the Lowe's board has no expiration date.

    Not long after the Vintage Varsity collection of young men’s and women’s apparel hits stores, Target News Now opined that the garments seemed a little pricy and cost conscious college kids would be likely to defer purchases until the goods were marked down.

    More specifically, we said, “College girls may love the look of the tees, tanks, sweats and shorts Target has offered up under the Vintage Varsity brand this season, but the prices the items are offered at isn’t anything to text home about.”

  • Regency Centers acquires center in Davis, Calif.

    Davis, Calif. -- Regency Centers, a national owner, operator and developer of grocery-anchored and community shopping centers, closed on the acquisition of Oak Shade Town Center, a 103,762-sq.-ft. neighborhood shopping center anchored by Safeway, Rite Aid and OfficeMax in Davis, Calif. The center is located within a mile of the University of California, Davis.

    The property was purchased on August 18 for $35 million from the center’s original owner.
