  • Jo-Ann Fabric joins two New Hampshire shopping centers

    Boston -- The Wilder Cos. announced the addition of Jo-Ann Fabric & Crafts at two of its New Hampshire shopping centers.

    Jo-Ann Fabric and Crafts recently opened at Belknap Mall, the only enclosed shopping mall north of Concord. The new store joins Peebles Department Store, Shaw’s, Maurices, Lakes Region Jewelers, CVS and Dunkin Donuts at the 218,500-sq.-ft. mall.

  • Fate of addition to Target campus awaits OK from city

    Whether employees at Target’s headquarters are able to hold meetings, work out, shoot baskets or have a cookout in a new downtown Minneapolis space is up for consideration on May 3 when the city’s zoning board of adjustment considers granting the retailer a variance.

  • Tesco investing to boost U.K. operations

    New York -- Tesco Plc will invest 1 billion pounds ($1.6 billion) to help turnaround its domestic operations. The chain will slow its international expansion as its concentrates on its home base.

    Tesco, the United Kingdom’s largest retailer, will give a makeover to about 430 of its U.K. supermarkets, add more workers and expand its online offerings.

  • A dot com disconnect and Canadian e-commerce opportunity revealed

    Target and other retailers have fought unsuccessfully for years to level the e-commerce playing field in the United States by requiring Amazon.com and other online-only merchants to collect sales tax. Doing so would eliminate the Internet-pure-play retailers’ most significant competitive advantage, and for a glimpse of just how significant look no further than Canada.

  • Sears completes sale of 11 properties to General Growth

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Holdings Corp. said Tuesday that it completed the $270 million sale of 11 full-line Sears store locations to General Growth Properties.

    Sears said the stores will continue to operate as Sears locations into 2013 or 2014, with final closing dates to be announced later this year. The stores are in Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and Washington.

    Sears announced in December it would close between 100 and 120 stores to raise cash after a disappointing holiday season.
     

  • Target exec among Twin City women worth watching

    Beth McGuire a senior group manager at Target was among a group of 25 “women to watch,” compiled by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal as part of the publication’s annual Women in Business Awards. The business newspaper also recognized 25 female industry leaders. McGuire and the other honorees will be recognized at a May 23 luncheon and featured in a special edition of the publication dated May 25.
