  • Tractor Supply 4Q comp up 13.1%

    BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -- Tractor Supply Company reported that net sales for the fourth quarter increased 19.7% to $1.03 billion from $862.5 million in the prior year's fourth quarter.  Same-store sales increased 13.1% compared with a 0.7% increase in the prior-year period.  

    Net income for the quarter was $50.2 million, or 67 cents per diluted share, compared with $37.3 million, or 51 cents per diluted share, in the prior year's fourth quarter.  

  • Sherwin-Williams sales up 18% for Q4

    Cleveland-based Sherwin-Williams reported fourth-quarter net income of $72.9 million, up 11.6% from $65.3 million reported for the same period last year.

    Sales for the quarter ended Dec. 31 were $1.89 billion, up 18.8% from $1.59 billion reported for the same period in 2009.

    For the full year, the company reported net income of $462.4 million, up 6.1% from $435.8 million for fiscal year 2009.

    Sales for 2010 totaled $7.77 billion, up 9.5% from $ 7.09 billion reported last year.

  • Retail sales in December rise for sixth consecutive month

    Washington, D.C. -- Retail sales rose for a sixth consecutive month in December, with big gains in sales of autos and furniture. The increases lifted sales activity for the year by the largest amount in more than a decade.

    Sales rose 0.6% last month to a level of $381 billion, the Commerce Department said Friday, less than the 0.8% economists had expected. However, the increase pushed sales for all of 2010 up 6.7%, the largest annual increase since 1999. Excluding autos, retail sales rose 0.5% last month.

  • New president named at Home Depot Canada

    ATLANTA - The Home Depot announced that Aaron Carmack has been promoted to president, The Home Depot Canada, effective Jan. 31.  Carmack, the current regional VP of the Pac North region in the U.S., is replacing Annette Verschuren, who is leaving the company after nearly 15 years of service.

  • Lowe's first national retailer to offer Energy Star-rated LED bulb

    MOORESVILLE, N.C.  - Lowe’s announced that it is the first national retailer to offer consumers the industry’s first and only Energy Star-rated LED A-Line bulb. 

    The GE Energy Smart 9-watt LED light bulb is rated to last more than 22 years, according to Lowe's, and is priced at $34.98.

  • Home Depot tests downsized kitchen showrooms

    ATLANTA - Home Depot is tinkering with the idea of  cutting back the space dedicated to kitchen showrooms. "We're piloting the removal of up to 40% of the space dedicated to kitchen showrooms," said Craig Menear, Home Depot's EVP merchandising, during the company's recent investor and analyst conference.

  • Tractor Supply to open new DC

    Brentwood, Texas -- Tractor Supply Co., announced plans to open a regional distribution center in Franklin, Ky.

    The new 840,000-sq.-ft. distribution center, expected to be in operation by the end of 2011, will serve stores in the mid-eastern United States.
