  • Lowe's to pay $1 million in overcharging settlement

    The New York attorney general's office has reached a settlement with Lowe's to refund up to 10% of flooring installation fees paid by more than 16,000 customers. The Associated Press reports that Lowe’s, with 64 New York stores, overcharged the customers with a deceptive sales practice that it has since agreed to halt. The retailer had offered installation of carpeting, tile, wood and laminate flooring by third-party contractors at square-foot rates that were applied to materials bought, not those actually installed.

  • Lumber Liquidators hopes to build a better future with new CEO

    Lumber Liquidators has selected a banking executive to be its next CEO even as the company continues to struggle from the financial effects of a flooring scandal earlier this year.

    The retailer has appointed board member and First Capital Bancorp veteran John Presley as CEO, replacing founder and acting CEO Thomas Sullivan. Sullivan will remain on the board as founder.

  • Venture Commercial closes two leases for specialty DIY retailer

    Venture Commercial has completed two leases on behalf of Northern Tool + Equipment in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, in the White Bear Marketplace, and in Live Oak, Texas, in The Village at Forum Parkway Shopping Center. Clay Mote of Venture Commercial, who is the master broker for Northern Tool + Equipment, made the announcement.

    Renton, Washington-based McLendon Hardware, which operates seven stores in Washington, is making a big move to same-day delivery for big items.

  • Home Depot adds IT, cybersecurity expert to board

    Nearly a year after a massive data breach, the Home Depot is looking to a cybersecurity veteran to add expertise to its board directors.

    The world's largest home improvement retailer said it has appointed Linda R. Gooden to the company's board of directors. Gooden will serve on the company's audit and leadership development and compensation committees. Her appointment gives the company 12 directors, 11 of whom are independent.
