  • New six-screen movie theatre to open in Ocala

    Ocala, Fla. -- RMC Property Management Group announced that it has executed a new lease for a movie theater on behalf of the owner of Marion Shopping Center in Ocala, Fla.

    Ocala Center 6, a six-screen theater, will occupy a 16,500-sq.-ft. space and is slated to open in May. Marion Shopping Center is anchored by Bealls Outlet and Rainbow Apparel.

  • Walmart to offer Verizon iPhone at select stores

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Walmart announced that iPhone 4 on the Verizon Wireless network will be available in select Walmart stores starting Feb. 10.  

     "We're excited to bring iPhone 4 on the Verizon Wireless network, one the most anticipated mobile phone launches in recent history, to Walmart customers," said Gary Severson, SVP home entertainment for Walmart U.S. "As customers continue to embrace smart phone technology, we've added nearly 20 smart phone models to our assortment, including the new Verizon Wireless iPhone 4."

  • Report: Wal-Mart in talks to partner with Indonesia's Matahari

    Jakarta/Singapore -- Wal-Mart Stores is in talks to become a partner of Indonesian retailer PT Matahari Putra Prima to develop its hypermarts, according to Reuters.

    South Korea's Lotte Shopping Co. has withdrawn from talks for a deal with Matahari, the report said. Matahari last month said it will seek a “global partner” to develop its hypermart business.

  • Supervalu continues foray into private-label beer biz

    MINNEAPOLIS — In the wake of Walgreens' Big Flats 1901 entry, Supervalu recently introduced its “high quality, low-price” private-label American lager Buck Range Light.

    Buck Range Light, which retails for about $5.99 for a 12-pack, will roll out in Supervalu banners nationwide, including Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Cub Foods and more.

  • Report: Big Lots to explore possible sale

    Columbus, Ohio -- Multiple news sources reported late Monday that discounter Big Lots is exploring its options, including a potential sale. No reports have yet been confirmed by the retailer.

    According to Bloomberg, which cited an unnamed source, Big Lots is exploring a possible sale of the company after receiving interest from buyout firms. Big Lots has a total enterprise value of $2.6 billion, according to Capital IQ.

  • J.C. Penney disappoints, Dillard’s shines in January

    New York City -- Dillard’s was the clear winner in the department store category in January, posting a same-store sales increase of 6%, which edged results from both Macy’s and Saks.

    J.C. Penney Co. was the big disappointment, as same-store sales dropped an unexpected 1.2%. A survey of analysts by Thomson Reuters produced a consensus estimate of same-store sales up 1.8%.

    The retailer said January sales were impacted by lower levels of clearance inventory as well as by adverse weather conditions.
