  • Survey: 54% of shoppers will spend $500+ on holiday gifts

    Los Angeles -- Research results released Monday by PriceGrabber – augmenting its previously released winter holiday shopping survey – revealed that more than half (54%) of consumers plan to spend $500 or more on gifts this season, slightly higher than 2011.

    In a demonstration of online channel strength, 75% of respondents selected online retailers when asked to select the types of stores they plan to shop for holiday gifts. Discount stores followed with 74%, and traditional department stores came in third place with 49%.

  • Northgate Mall redevelopment will add Ross and Michael’s

    Chattanooga, Tenn. -- CBL & Associates Properties said Monday it will renovate and redevelop its Northgate Mall property in Chattanooga, Tenn., with the first phase adding Ross Dress for Less and Michael’s Arts & Crafts, as well as redeveloping the adjacent T.J. Maxx-anchored community center.

    Construction will begin on the associated center in early 2013 with completion anticipated in fall 2013.

  • Grossman Development Group begins site work for Granite Ridge Marketplace

    Boston -- Grossman Development Group (GDG), a boutique real estate development firm led by Howard Grossman, announced that it has begun site work for the 330,000-sq.-ft. Granite Ridge Marketplace, a 57-acre shopping center development located in Rochester, N.H.

    The development, which boasts a trade area of 198,000 people, will feature a mix of anchor retail, junior anchor retail, small stores, restaurants and entertainment. It is located on Route 11, the gateway to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire and close to the Maine border.

     

  • Dollarama adds new director to board

    MONTREAL — Canadian dollar-store chain, Dollarama, has named Richard Roy as an independent director of the corporation. Roy will fill the vacancy created among the board of directors by the resignation of Matthew Levin.

    Roy will also sit on the audit committee of the corporation, and Huw Thomas, independent director of Dollarama, will replace Levin on the human resources and compensation committee while remaining a member of the audit committee and the nominating and governance committee of the corporation.

    PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. — It seems that consumers' holiday spending intentions are more positive than last year, according to NPD's 11th annual holiday retail study.

  • NPD: More consumers to spend same or more this holiday versus last year

    Port Washington, N.Y. -- The majority of consumers intend to spend the same (67%) this holiday season than last year, and 10% plan to spend more while fewer that say they plan to spend less, according to the NPD Group’s 11th Annual Holiday Survey.
