  • Dollar General CFO to retire

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. — Dollar General announced Thursday that David Tehle, executive VP and CFO, will retire from Dollar General effective July 1, 2015. The retailer has started a search for a successor and will consider both internal and external candidates for the job.

  • Stein Mart growing same store sales, footprint

    Off-price retailer Stein Mart is poised for expansion as stronger traffic in the holiday quarter helped the company post an increase in same store sales. 

  • Ross Stores opening 90 stores in 2015

    Dublin, Calif. -- Ross Stores recently opened 32 Ross Dress for Less stores and five dd’s Discounts locations across 15 different states. The openings are part of the off-price retailer’s 2015 expansion plans to open a total of approximately 90 stores in 2015 (70 Ross and 20 dd’s Discounts).

  • REI opens at Mansell Crossing

    Alpharetta, Ga. --  Brixmor Property Group announced the opening of a 24,000-sq.-ft. REI at Mansell Crossing in Alpharetta, Georgia.  This is the fifth Atlanta-area location for the national outdoor retailer.

  • Old Navy to open at Bayshore Town Center

    Glendale, Wis. -- Olshan Properties announced that Old Navy will open a store at Bayshore Town Center, in Glendale, Wisconsin. Old Navy will occupy a 17,025-sq.-ft. space that formerly housed Applebee’s, which has relocated to a larger location within the center.
         

  • Juicy Couture plans global expansion

    New York -- Juicy Couture, which was acquired by Authentic Brands Group in 2013, may no longer be a coveted brand in the United States, but it is still has great appeal in foreign markets. The company expects to open 133 stores (through its various licensing partners) during the next five years, according to Women's Wear Daily.

    Juicy will open 31 international locations in eight countries this year, the report said. Three of the countries — India, South Africa and Azerbaijan — will be new market entries for the brand.

  • Five Below entering Alabama; to open total of 70 stores in 2015

    Philadelphia -- Tween and teen retailer Five Below will open three stores in Alabama, its first ever in the state, on March 13.

    The stores, which average 7,500 sq.-ft. each, are located in Huntsville, Florence and Gadsden.

    "Entering Alabama is an important next step as we continue to grow our footprint across the country," said Joel Anderson, CEO of Five Below. "We're excited to open the first of what we hope to be many stores in this great state.”  

  • Kohl’s is tops for shopping for clothes in Piper Jaffray survey

    Boston – Kohl’s will be pleased to hear that women love shopping for clothes there. According to a new survey from Piper Jaffray, a leading 12% of female consumers selected Kohl’s as their preferred clothing brand/store/website for spring 2015. Macy’s took second place with 9%, followed by J.C. Penney and Wal-Mart (7%) and Amazon (5%).

    Kohl’s has taken the top spot in Piper Jaffray’s biannual survey since fall 2013.
