  • Men's Wearhouse acquires… Jos. A. Bank

    The months-long back and forth is over. The Men's Wearhouse will acquire all outstanding shares of Jos. A. Bank’s common stock for $65 per share in cash, or total consideration of $1.8 billion. The boards of directors of both companies have unanimously approved the transaction.

    Together, Men's Wearhouse and Jos. A. Bank will have more than 1,700 stores in the U.S., making it the fourth largest U.S. men's apparel retailer with approximately 23,000 employees and sales of $3.5 billion on a pro forma basis.

  • Stage Stores Q4 profit down 30%; selling Steele’s division

    Houston – Stage Stores' fiscal fourth-quarter net income plunged 30%, stung by a charge tied to the sale of its Steele's off-price division and softer revenue. Its adjusted earnings, however, topped analysts' estimates.

    Stage Stores announced that it is selling its off-price retail division Steele's to Hilco Global Retail Group in an equity deal.

    For the quarter ended Feb. 1, Stage Stores earned $24.9 million, down from $35.8 million in the year-ago period.  

  • Bon-Ton to build e-commerce fulfillment center

    York, Pa. - The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. has signed a lease with Duke Realty Corp for a 743,000-sq.-ft., automated, direct-to-consumer fulfillment center in West Jefferson, Ohio, to support its growing e-commerce operations. The company anticipates the facility to be fully operational and ship its first orders in spring of 2015.

  • Uniqlo teams up with Pharrell Williams for new ad campaign

    Uniqlo has enlisted musician and music producer Pharrell Williams as a collaborator and spokesperson for the UT 2014 spring-summer collection. Launched in 2003, Uniqlo’s UT T-shirt brand is getting a fresh start this year, as “The New Model T,” a collection produced by its creative director and street fashion icon Nigo.

  • Nordstrom to open second location in greater Austin market

    Seattle -- Nordstrom announced plans to open a full-line store at The Domain in Austin, Texas. The two-level, approximately 123,000-sq.-ft. store is scheduled to open in fall 2016 and will be the company's second full-line store serving the greater Austin area. The Domain is owned and operated by Endeavor Real Estate Group.

  • Sprouts Farmers Market, Athleta among brands in expansion mode

    New York -- Phoenix-based Sprouts Farmers Markets Inc. is expanding. The natural-foods supermarket chain expects to open 22 to 24 stores in fiscal 2014, including five locations in the Atlanta area.

    Sprouts currently operates more than 165 locations in eight states.

    Meanwhile, Gap Inc. continues to expand its newest banner, Athleta, with about 30 additional U.S. stores on tap for fiscal year 2014.
