  • The Men’s Wearhouse Q2 down 28%; lowers full-year view

    Fremont, Calif. -- The Men's Wearhouse Inc.'s fiscal second-quarter earnings fell 28% amid several one-time charges and a shift in quarterly tuxedo rental revenues. Citing macroeconomic challenges, the company lowered its fiscal 2013 guidance.

  • Von Maur to enter Northeast with store in upstate New York

    Davenport, Iowa -- Von Maur Department Stores will open its first location in the Northeast, at Eastview Mall in Victor, N.Y., which is located just outside of Rochester. The two-level, 140,000-sq.-ft. store is scheduled to open on Oct. 26.

    Located at the mall's former Bon Ton location, the store underwent a complete reconstruction by local contractor LaChase Construction to achieve Von Maur's signature exterior brick façade with arching entryways accented by a copper roof and cupolas.

  • Lower-than-expected retail sales affect Men's Wearhouse second quarter

    The Men's Wearhouse experienced a decline in customer traffic and a subsequent drop in retail clothing sales during the second quarter ended Aug. 3, and has lowered its guidance as a result.

  • RMC has leased 430,000 sq. ft. YTD

    Tampa, Fla. — From January through August of this year, the RMC Property Group has leased 430,000 sq. ft. of retail space. Approximately 200,000 sq. ft. of that volume was leased during the three-month period of June through August, indicating a strong uptick in growth over the summer.

  • No alternate suitors appear for Saks

    New York -- The planned merger between Saks Inc. and Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) took another step forward with the expiration of the 40-day “go shop” period for Saks on Sept. 6. As previously disclosed, the merger agreement entered into on July 28, 2013 between Saks and HBC contained a 40-day “go-shop” period during which Saks was permitted to solicit alternative proposals from third parties.

  • Central New Jersey retail vacancy rate rises to 9.8%

    Old Bridge, N.J. — The retail vacancy rate along central New Jersey’s major shopping corridors increased to 9.8% this summer, according to R.J. Brunelli & Co.’s 24th annual study of the central New Jersey market.

    The disappointing upward spike follows a major decline from a 10-year high of 10.5% to 9.1% between 2011 and 2012. R.J. Brunelli attributed the change to growing closures of smaller ships overcoming progress in re-tenanting big-box spaces larger than 20,000 sq. ft.

  • Best Buy, Office Depot top retail back-to-school brands

    Mountain View, Calif. -- Best Buy was the most effective retail brand overall during the 2013 back-to-school advertising season for the second year in a row with an average Ace Score of 561, performing 15% higher than its retail peers, according to TV and video advertising data from Ace Metrix.

    Office Depot was the second most effective back-to-school retail advertiser with an average Ace Score of 540.
