  • Soft sales don't deter Advance Auto's expansion agenda

    Advance Auto Parts announced plans to open its 4,000th store on Friday, one day after reporting disappointing sales at its 3,999 locations.

    Total sales for the second quarter increased 6.1% to $1.55 billion due largely to the addition of 175 new locations. However, same store sales declined 0.3% on top of a prior year decline of 2.7%.

  • Roundy’s reports rough Q2 results

    Milwaukee -- Roundy’s reported generally disappointing financial results for the second quarter of fiscal 2013. Net income plummeted 40% from $18.9 million in the second quarter of the previous year to $13.5 million, while net sales for the second quarter of 2013 were $980.3 million, a decrease of $16.5 million, or 1.7%, from $996.8 million for the second quarter of 2012.

  • 99 Cents Only goes from loss to gain in Q1 ‘14

    City of Commerce, Calif. -- 99 Cents Only Stores had a positive first quarter of fiscal 2014, swinging from a net loss to net income and also reporting gains in net and same-store sales. The retailer reported net income of $3.16 million, compared to a net loss of about $4.9 million a year earlier.

  • Fairway Market to anchor Hudson Yards

    New York – Fairway Market will be the anchor grocer at the Hudson Yards residential/retail complex being developed by Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group in Manhattan. The 45,875-sq.-ft. store will be located in the Hudson Yards South Tower.

    Doubling sales in any category within a four year time span would be an audacious goal for any retailer, but that was the objective Walmart set for itself in the beer category last fall, according to Bloomberg.

  • Same-store sales up in July, boosted by heavy promotions

    New York -- A group of 11 large U.S. retailers that report same-store sales results each month had a generally strong showing in July. However, Thomson Reuters analysis indicates significant discounting helped drive an overall 4.4% increase, more than double the 1.4% same-store sales rise recorded in July of last year.

  • McDonald’s reports slightly higher domestic, global same-store sales in July

    Oak Brook, Ill. – Despite declines in European and Asia-Pacific/Middle East/Africa (APMEA) same-store sales, positive domestic same-store sales performance in July resulted in a small global increase for McDonald’s Corporation. The fast-food giant reported 1.6% domestic same-store sales growth compared to July 2012 as well as 1.9% declines in both Europe and APMEA same-store sales, averaging out to a 0.7% global increase.

  • Holiday Stationstores Announces Expansion in Dakotas

    MinneapolisHoliday Stationstores has reached an agreement with I-90 Fuel Services to convert 16 of The Gas Stop convenience stores to Holiday Stationstores, expanding the Holiday brand in the South Dakota and Southwestern Minnesota markets.

    The Gas Stop stores making the conversion are located in Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Brandon, Mitchell, Mobridge, Pierre and Volga, South Dakota. The Minnesota stores are in Luverne and Worthington.
