  • DDR completes redevelopment of Roswell, Ga., center

    Beachwood, Ohio — DDR Corp. has announced the completion of a $12 million redevelopment project at Sandy Plains Village, a power center located in the Atlanta suburb of Roswell.

    The redevelopment installed a 60,000-sq.-ft. Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market in a space formerly occupied by a traditional grocer. The new location is DDR’s 79th Wal-Mart store and the company’s eighth in the Atlanta market.

  • New tenants head to East Peoria’s Levee District

    Peoria, Ill. — Called The Levee District, the 86-acre new downtown going up in East Peoria, Ill., will include 500,000 sq. ft. of retail and restaurant space as well as office, hotel and civic components.

    Four new retailers recently inked leases for space in The Levee District.

    Construction is well underway on a 10,400-sq.-ft. space next to Gordmans to be occupied by Shoe Dept Encore. The new store plans to open in the spring of 2014.

  • ICSC: November sales fall short

    New York -- Sales at U.S. chain stores were up 2.1% in November, or 3% without the effects of gasoline sales, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers. The group had predicted an increase of 3.5% to 4.5%.

    “Sales were constrained by weak apparel sales this month,” said Michael P. Niemira, chief economist, ICSC. “November was a very competitive environment for retailers, and the softness in the November tally suggests some cautiousness by consumers.”

  • Dollar General accelerates expansion, again

    A record 700 new Dollar General stores are slated to open in 2014, the company announced Thursday morning after reporting third-quarter results and tempering its full-year sales forecast.

    Same-stores sales at Dollar General increased 4.4% and total sales increased 10.5% to $4.38 billion during the third quarter ended Nov. 1. Profits increase 14% to $237 million from $208 million and earnings per share increased 19% to 74 cents from 62 cents.

  • Dollar General Q3 rises 14%; ups 2014 expansion to 700 new stores

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. – Dollar General delivered some impressive financial results for the third quarter of fiscal 2013 as traffic improved and shoppers spent more per transaction on average. The retailer said it plans to open approximately 700 stores in fiscal 2014 and remodel or relocate approximately 525 locations, expanding store selling square footage by 6% to 7%.

    Dollar General’s net income increased by a better-than-expected 14% to $237 million in the 2013 third quarter compared to $208 million in year-ago period.

  • DryClean NYC takes upper Manhattan location

    New York  — DryClean NYC has signed a lease for a fourth location in Upper Manhattan, according to Faith Hope Consolo, chairman, Joseph A. Aquino, executive VP and Arthur Maglio of Douglas Elliman’s Retail Group, who arranged the lease. The new store will open at 708 St. Nicholas Avenue, between 145 and 146th Streets.

    This is the fifth lease the Retail Group has arranged in the building. The other four stores include Sugar Hill Medical Plaza, Unity Wines & Spirits, W Dental and Metro PCS.

  • Kroger still sizzling in third quarter

    Kroger has extended its streak of consecutive same-store sales growth to 40 quarters — an impressive feat in light of the slow economic recovery.
     
    The company reported a same-store supermarket sales increase of 3.5%, excluding fuel, for the third quarter.

    "The resiliency of our Customer First strategy … was on full display during the quarter, even as our internal research shows that customers remain uncertain about the economy," Dave Dillon, Kroger chairman and CEO said.

  • Dollar Tree to Brooks Crossing in Watauga, Texas

    Watauga, Texas — Dollar Tree has leased an 8,450-sq.-ft. location at Brooks Crossing, a community retail center in Watauga, Texas. The Weitzman Group represented the shopping center, and The Retail Connection represented Dollar Tree.

    The Brooks Crossing tenant line-up includes Albertsons, GameStop, Tuesday Morning, Chase, GNC, Subway, Taco Bell and others. Cencor Realty Services manages Brooks Crossing.
