  • M&M’s store opens in Paris airport

    New York -- Mars International Travel Retail (MITR) has opened the first M&M's store in France, in Terminal 2A at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport.

  • Sam's Club launches chip-enabled credit card

    In a major boost to member benefits, Sam’s Club announced a credit card cash back program that gives members the opportunity to earn 5% cash back on fuel, 3% cash back on dining and travel and 1% cash back on all other purchases, up to $5,000 annually.

  • Pep Boys to Orchard Square in Kennesaw, Georgia

    Kennesaw, Ga. — Pep Boys has signed a 10-year lease for 5,000 sq. ft. at Orchard Square center in Kennesaw, Georgia.

    According to the landlord, Westwood Financial Corp. (www.westfin.com), one of the nation’s largest privately held retail shopping center owners, the space was expanded by 1,000 sq. ft. to 5,000 sq. ft. to meet Pep Boys’ current prototype.

  • Vera Bradley names Saks exec as executive VP, retail and wholesale sales

    Fort Wayne, Ind. -- Vera Bradley announced that Karen Peters has been named executive VP, retail and wholesale sales.

    Peters has 25 years of retail experience including multi-store management and merchandising. Between February 2005 and March 2014, she served as senior VP, director of stores for Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th. Prior to that, she held key management positions with Sears, Target, and Kohl's.

    Undeterred by bad weather and competitive pressures that took a toll on its first quarter performance, Dollar General is pressing ahead with plans for 700 new stores, recently opened its 12th distribution center and believes its full year profit forecast is attainable.

  • CBX to update design, branding of c-store Friendly Express

    New York -- Global brand agency CBX will help Friendly Express update the design and branding of its 42-store network of community-focused convenience stores in southeast Georgia.

    Under the assignment, the firm will update the chain’s logo and redesign the interiors and exteriors of its convenience stores, which range in size from 2,000 sq. ft. to 3,500 sq. ft. Friendly Express stores, which also offer gasoline, are located in several different southeast Georgia communities, including Waycross, Jesup, Folkston, Brunswick, and St. Simons Island.

  • Seattle raises minimum wage to $15 an hour; highest in United States

    New York -- The Seattle City Council on Monday unanimously voted to raise the minimum wage in the city to $15 an hour, making it the highest municipal minimum wage in the country. The measure, which takes effect on April 1, 2015, will be phased in over the next three to seven years depending on the size of the business, with a slower process for small businesses.
