  • NRF survey: Expanded overtime would hurt retail

    Washington, D.C. - An Obama administration proposal to expand overtime and redefine what it means to be a restaurant or retail manager may harm mangers’ career paths and undermine the quality of customer service they are able to provide. According to a new survey 200 salaried retail and restaurant managers conducted for the National Retail Federation (NRF) by GfK Research, 81% of respondents said there would be an adverse impact on customer service.

  • Christopher & Banks names former Pantry CEO to board

    Minneapolis - Christopher & Banks Corp, has named Edwin J. Holman to its board of directors, following a search process with the assistance of a national search firm. Holman’s election increases the number of board members to nine and the number of independent directors to eight.

    Holman is also expected to be a nominee for election at the company’s next annual meeting of stockholders. Holman, 68, served as interim CEO of The Pantry Inc. from October 2011 until March 2012.

  • Retail Loco @ SXSW: Retailers Talk Location Solutions

    Brands, retailers and technologists convened at Retail Loco at South by Southwest Interactive, Sunday, March 15, 2015 hosted by Location Based Marketing Association. The event focused on how companies are leveraging location solutions and data for better business. The LBMA is a global not-for-profit association with over 1,000 member companies including media, retail, brands, agencies and technology companies.

  • ARTS adds to standard RFP library

    Washington, D.C. - The Association for Retail Technology Standards (ARTS), a division of the National Retail Federation (NRF), has announced two major additions to the ARTS Standard Request for Proposals (RFP) library on selecting payments solutions and video analytics solutions. These standardized RFPs will help retail companies research software applications ahead of time.

  • Retailers ramping up expansion

    New York -- From extreme-value discounters to c-store operators, retailers across the board are expanding their brick-and-mortar portfolios in 2015. Here’s a review:

    • Dollar General will open 730 new stores and remodel 875 existing locations.

    • DSW Inc. will open 35 stores, including locations in at least 12 new markets.

    • Express is ramping up its new outlet format with 30 locations.

  • Aldi completed purchase of 66 Bottom Dollar stores from Delhaize

    Batavia, Ill. – Aldi Inc. has completed its purchase of 66 Bottom Dollar Food stores from the Delhaize Group. The transaction includes the land, buildings and leasehold improvements associated with Delhaize's recently retired Bottom Dollar Food operation.

  • Aldi accelerating expansion with Bottom Dollar

    Aldi's pace of growth is about to quicken now that its acquisition of Delhaize Group's Bottom Dollar Food store locations is complete.

    The retailer announced it has completed its purchase of 66 real estate assets from the Delhaize Group. The transaction includes the land, buildings and leasehold improvements associated with Delhaize's recently retired Bottom Dollar Food operation.

  • Super Stop & Shop puts Key Me kiosks in select stores

    Quincy, Mass. - Ahold will install KeyMe retail key-making kiosks at select Super Stop & Shop locations in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York. The kiosks enable customers to safely store a “digital copy” of their keys in the cloud and create a spare copy at their local Super Stop & Shop in less than 30 seconds.
