    And it is true that over the last few years, we’ve seen a big acceleration in the drive towards large-scale consumer adoption of new digital payments technologies, especially in the mobile category.

    While mobile technology has changed the way people shop, consumers — including the most tech-savvy — still do the vast majority of their shopping in shopping centers.

    At least that’s according to a new survey by the International Council of Shopping Centers, which found that 83% of U.S. consumers visit a shopping center at least once a week, including 92% of 18 to 24 year olds. Overall, the young consumers visit shopping centers on average 10.8 times a week.

  • Sears Hometown and Outlet sales decline

    Sears Hometown and Outlet stores narrowed its loss in the third quarter despite weak sales growth in the appliance and garden categories.

    The retailer said same-store sales decreased 1.6% in the third quarter ended Oct. 31. Net sales fell 3.2% to $547.1 million as the company reported a loss of $3.8 million, or 17 cents a share, compared with a loss of $171.2 million, or $7.55 a share, a year earlier.

  • Gamers can now save on fuel at GameStop

    GameStop is upping the ante on rewards by allowing customers to use their reward points to save on the cost of fuel.

    The retailer is partnering with the Excentus Corp. Fuel Rewards program to allow members to earn fuel savings from purchases made at thousands of participating merchants, retailers and restaurants nationwide.
