  • Jimmy Johns inks 3 leases in Detroit metro area

    Bloomfield Hills, Mich. — Jimmy Johns has signed leases for three new restaurants in the Detroit metropolitan area, two in Livonia and one in Northville.

    In Livonia, Jimmy Johns signed a 2,277-sq.-ft. lease on Middlebelt Road. Mid-America Real Estate-Michigan (www.midamericagrp.com) represented Jimmy Johns and the landlord, CVS, in the transaction.

  • Quiznos files Chapter 11

    Denver -- Quiznos on Friday filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to reduce its debt. The sandwich chain said it filed after reaching a deal to cut its debt by more than $400 million, or about two-thirds. Quiznos said it would continue operating while it works to implement a debt-restructuring plan and make operational improvements.
  • CST Brands names new board member

    San Antonio -- Stephen Smith, former co-CEO of the Toronto-based restaurant chain owner and operator Cara Operations Limited, has been elected to the CST Brands' board of directors. Smith's most recent experience was with Cara as co-CEO and, prior to that, CFO of Cara. Previously, Smith served for many years as an executive of Canadian grocer, Loblaw Companies Limited.

  • Jersey Mike’s opens at Kohl’s Plaza in Holmdel, N.J.

    Purchase, N.Y. — Jersey Mike’s Subs has opened a new shop at Kohl’s Plaza in Holmdel, N.J. Kohl’s and Stein Mart anchor the 184,575-sq.-ft. shopping center owned and managed by National Realty & Development Corp.

    The tenant line-up also includes 7-Eleven, Harmon Stores, Avenue, Wells Fargo and the Bayshore Academy of Dance.

     

  • Bi-Lo mixes it up in Ga.

    Bi-Lo Holdings, parent company of the Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie supermarket chains, plans to convert seven existing Harveys stores to Winn-Dixie stores and three existing Winn-Dixie stores to Harveys stores.

    The stores are part of the pending acquisition of 134 operating stores from Delhaize Group.

  • Report: Cerberus to buy Safeway

    New York -- Private-equity firm Cerberus Capital Management has reached a preliminary agreement to buy Safeway Inc. for over $9 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. The deal is subject to board approval.

    As part of the deal, Cerberus would pay roughly $40 a share for Safeway.

    The Kroger Co., which recently completed its acquisition of Harris Teeter, reportedly was also interested in making a bid for Safeway. Even if a deal is announced between Cerberus and Safeway, Kroger could still mount a bid.

  • Corner Bakery Café to enter Indianapolis

    Dallas -- Corner Bakery Café has signed a new multi-unit development agreement to open its first restaurants in Indianapolis beginning later this year and the remaining sites over the next six years.

  • Report: Cumberland Farms sells 27 stores

    Framingham, Mass. – Cumberland Farms is reportedly selling 27 stores in New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, to Petroleum Marketing Group, based in Woodbridge, Va. According to the Boston Globe, the stores will continue to operate as convenience stores and all roughly 600 affected employees are expected to keep their jobs.

    Cumberland Farms will focus on its nearly 600 remaining stores in New England, New York, and Florida. Both companies are private and terms were not disclosed.

  • Dunkin’ Donuts plans 46 new restaurants in California

    Canton, Mass. — Dunkin’ Donuts has signed a multi-unit store development agreement with Sizzling Donuts, an existing franchise group, for 46 new restaurants throughout the greater Sacramento, Calif., metro area and the surrounding cities of Stockton, Modesto, Tracy, Manteca, Placerville and Davis.

    Canton, Mass. - Dunkin' Donuts has signed a multi-unit store development agreement with existing franchise group, Sizzling Donuts LLC for 46 new restaurants throughout the greater Sacramento, Calif., metro area and surrounding cities of Stockton, Modesto, Tracy, Manteca, Placerville and Davis, Calif.
