    Southeastern Grocers' chief executive is leaving after 16-months on the job to pursue "another opportunity."  

  • Canadian REIT buys five grocery-anchored centers

    The Toronto-based Slate Retail REIT announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire five grocery-anchored centers in Florida and Pennsylvania for a total of $105 million.   “This five-asset portfolio meets all of our acquisition criteria -- attractive returns, markets we like that add scale, pricing well below replacement cost, strong anchors, and in-place rents that are below market,” said Slate CEO Greg Stevenson.

  • Dollar Tree makes exec promotion

    Dollar Tree has promoted a key executive as the discounter continues its rapid expansion.   The retailer, which plans to open 650 stores in 2017, has promoted Michael A. Witynski to president and COO of its Dollar Tree division. Witynski will be responsible for merchandising, marketing and store operations for Dollar Tree stores in the United States.    

  • Report: FTC preparing to block Walgreen’s acquisition of Rite Aid

    A new report suggests that Walgreens Boots Alliance’s acquisition of Rite Aid may be in jeopardy.    The Capital Forum reported that the Federal Trade Commission's staff are prepared to recommend that the agency file a lawsuit to stop the deal, according to Reuters. A source close to the deal told Reuters that FTC staff has asked companies and groups concerned about the deal for depositions and affidavits that could be used in a lawsuit aimed at stopping it.

  • BevMo taps former Dick’s Sporting Goods exec to oversee store operations

    BevMo has made a move to further boost its store experience.   Matt Navarro was named senior VP of operations for the beverage retailer, responsible for all store operations, customer service and loss prevention. In this position, Navarro will be tasked with elevating BevMo’s in-store shopping experience, including driving customer loyalty, enhancing its service model and strengthening employee development programs.  

  • 7-Eleven opening futuristic store in South Korea

    Convenience-store giant 7-Eleven is opening a store that allows customers to pay simply with a wave of their hand.  

  • Small c-store chain with big ambitions acquires 35 locations

    Yesway has expanded its store network.   The convenience store company announced it has acquired 35 Wes-T-Go and Chillerz stores in Abilene, Texas. The acquired stores will be added to Yesway’s existing portfolio of 38 locations currently operating in Iowa and Kansas.  

  • Pilot Flying J adds new executive position

    Pilot Flying J has added a new title to its management team.    The company announced that Whitney Haslam-Johnson, previously VP of brand and customer experience, has been named to the new position of chief experience officer at Pilot Flying J. Johnson is also a member of the company’s board.
