  • 'Most efficient' products get EPA/DOE recognition

    WASHINGTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced the first products recognized as "most efficient," as part of a new program launched in May under the Energy Star initiative.

  • GNC to open at at Twin Oaks Shopping Center

    Aguora Hills, Calif. -- Jacksonville, Fla.-based Regency Centers said it has leased space in Aguora Hills, Calif. to GNC, which will open a new store at Twin Oaks Shopping Center.

    GNC has leased 1,050 sq. ft., bringing the center to 97% leased.  The tenant is slated to open for business in fall 2011.  

    Aguora Hills, a 98,399-sq.-ft. shopping center, is anchored by Ralphs, alongside RadioShack, Rite Aid, Wells Fargo Bank and Starbucks. 

  • BTS shopping budgets drop, Internet remains go-to source for deals

    LOS ANGELES — Back-to-school budgets will moderately decrease this year, but more consumers will turn to the Internet to score the best deals.

    According to a survey conducted by PriceGrabber, 48% of shoppers said they plan to spend $250 or more on back-to-school purchases, while 25% will spend $500 or more. This compared with 2010, when 56% of consumers indicated that they would spend $250 or more, while 31% planned to spend $500 or more.

  • Three new leases signed at Village at Lee Airpark

    Annapolis, Md. — Jacksonville, Fla.-based Regency Centers said three new tenants have leased space at Village at Lee Airpark, located in Annapolis, Md.

    Coldstone Creamery has leased 1,240 sq. ft., AT&T Authorized Dealer CellComm has leased 2,076 sq. ft., and Bay Tunes Guitars has leased 1,390 sq. ft.

    All three retailers are slated to open fall 2011, bringing the first phase of Village at Lee Airpark to 98% occupancy.  

  • CBL announces anchor redevelopments, expansion at Monroeville Mall

    Monroeville, Pa. — Chattanooga, Tenn.-based CBL & Associates Properties Inc. has announced a series of anchor redevelopments at Monroeville Mall in Monroeville, Pa., including the relocation of J.C. Penney to a new 110,000-sq.-ft. store on the upper level of the former Boscov’s location.     

    Additionally, the current J.C. Penney location will be redeveloped into a new state-of-the-art 12-screen Cinemark Theatre. 

  • NRF: June sales mark 12 consecutive months of growth

    Washington, D.C. — A report released Thursday by the National Retail Federation, which expanded on earlier news by the U.S. Commerce Department, showed that warm weather, reduced gas prices and strong Father’s Day promotions helped power retail sales for the 12th consecutive month and past Wall Street expectations.

    According to the NRF, retail industry sales (which exclude automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants) in June increased 0.3% seasonally adjusted from May and 5.5% unadjusted year-over-year.

    WASHINGTON — Warm weather, lower gas costs and strong Father's Day promotions apparently put consumers in a spending mood in June, boosting retail sales for the 12th consecutive month and surpassing many analysts' expectations, according to the National Retail Federation.

  • Study: In-store technology critical for growth, helping customer relationships

    Palo Alto, Calif. -- Seventy percent of retailers are empowering their employees with technology-enabled touch points to help their businesses to differentiate and evolve, according to a recent RSR Research report cosponsored by HP.

    The study finds that by arming their associates with a range of technologies that provide relevant and timely information -- such as digital signage, self-service kiosks, mobile devices and advanced point-of-sale systems -- retailers can increase productivity and boost multichannel selling opportunities.
