  • Bon-Ton real estate strategy includes two store closings in Pa., Ohio

    York, Pa. -- As part of a real estate realignment strategy, The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. on Tuesday said it will close two of its department stores, one in Pennsylvania and the other in Ohio, when their leases expire in early 2012.

    The company said it plans to close its store in the West Manchester Mall in York, Pa., in January, and its Elder-Beerman store in the Northwest Mall in Dayton, Ohio, which will shut down in February.

  • Target future uncertain following CFO retirement

    MINNEAPOLIS — The unexpected announcement that Target EVP and CFO Doug Scovanner will retire on March 31, 2012 has investors speculating about the reasons for his departure following the recent exit of other key executives.

    Analysts at Bernstein Research pointed to the fact that no successor has been named, suggesting that the retirement was not a long planned for event. However, the firm said it believes that despite the unexpected news, this appears to be a true retirement and doesn't anticipate seeing Scovanner in a CFO role at another major company.

  • Stein Mart completes new bank credit facility

    Jacksonville, Fla. -- Stein Mart said Monday it has completed a new $100 million senior secured revolving credit facility with Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. to replace an existing $150 million revolving credit facility, which was maturing in early 2012.

    The new facility can be increased to $150 million and matures in February 2017. The revolving credit is for general corporate purposes, including issuing standby and commercial letters of credit, and provides an additional source of liquidity, according to Stein Mart.

  • Flying Cupcake to open at Rivers Edge Shopping Center

    Indianapolis -- Kite Realty Group said that The Flying Cupcake has leased 856 sq. ft. at Rivers Edge Shopping Center, located in Indianapolis.

    Rivers Edge, recently renovated, is anchored by Nordstrom Rack, Buy Buy Baby, The Container Store, Harry & Izzy’s and soon Arhaus Furniture. The total GLA is 152,575 sq. ft.

  • Zale uses NewComLink platform to expand customer financing options

    Austin, Texas -- NewComLink announced that Zale Corp. has implemented the NewComLink platform as part of its new program to provide alternative financing options to its U.S. customers.

    Zale announced the new alternative financing program on Aug. 31.

  • Macy's to open at midnight on Black Friday

    NEW YORK — Macy's announced that, for the first time ever, it will open its stores at 12 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 25, the day after Thanksgiving, to give shoppers a jump on Black Friday.

    According to the company, its Black Friday sale will include door-buster deals on hundreds of items from electronics to jewelry, and even a limited-edition fragrance gift set from Justin Bieber featuring his holiday CD and an exclusive bonus track. 

  • Gap taps Schimenti Construction for Athleta NYC flagship

    Ridgefield, Conn. -- Gap tapped Schimenti Construction to build the company’s flagship Athleta location in New York City.

    The 3,922-sq.-ft. store, which features performance apparel and gear for the active woman, is in a landmark building on Columbus Avenue, in Manhattan. The space was completed in 13 weeks from start to opening.

  • Container import volume down 6% in September from August

    Newark, N.J.  -- U.S. containerized import volume fell 6% in September from the month before as surging shipping of auto parts was not enough to offset growing pessimism among retailers about consumer demand heading into the holidays, according to figures from The Journal of Commerce/PIERS.

    Imports fell 6% from August to September, and the disappointing numbers for such items as toys, apparel and home goods signaled retailers are restraining their inventory growth on the cusp of the holiday shopping season.
