  • Gymboree bolsters e-commerce with help from Oracle

    Gymboree is looking to Oracle Commerce to support its full range of international e-commerce sites across all its brands, which include Gymboree, Janie and Jack, and Crazy 8.

    Gymboree also plans to implement Oracle WebLogic Suite.

  • Former Williams-Sonoma exec to head global retail at Levi’s

    New York -- Levi Strauss & Co. has named Craig Nomura as president of global retail, effective Feb. 3, 2014. He joins Levi’s from Williams-Sonoma Inc., where he was most recently senior VP of global development.

    Nomura, who also held leadership positions at Gap Inc., The Gymboree Corp., Guess?, Inc., and Foot Locker, succeeds Joelle Maher, who left Levi’s in June 2013 to join Gymboree as COO.

  • American Eagle CEO Hanson resigns

    Pittsburgh -- American Eagle Outfitters said that CEO Robert Hanson, would leave the company, effective immediately. He was appointed to the position in late 2011, after 23 years at Levi Strauss & Co., where he served in a number of executive roles.

    Similar to many other teen retailers, American Eagle has been struggling. The company reported a profit of $24.9 million in the three months ended Nov. 2, compared to $78.6 million in the year-ago period. Revenue was $857.3 million, a decline from $910.4 million a year ago.

  • AJB deploys chip and PIN payment cards for J.Crew in Canada

    Toronto -- AJB Software Design announced that it has implemented chip+PIN secured payment cards for all of J.Crew’s store locations throughout Canada.

    AJB’s flexible integrated payments (FIPay) software enables merchants to accept EMV transactions, which can result in fewer disputed charges, lower levels of fraud, while providing global interoperability.

  • American Eagle seeks new CEO

    American Eagle Outfitters has named Jay L. Schottenstein, executive chairman of the board, as the company’s interim CEO. Schottenstein takes over for Robert Hanson, who is leaving the company.

  • Jos. A. Bank rejects Men’s Wearhouse offer

    Hampstead, Md. – The board of directors of Jos. A. Bank Clothiers, Inc. has officially rejected an unsolicited buyout offer from The Men’s Wearhouse. The offer, which expires March 28, 2014, is worth $57.50 per share, or about $1.6 billion.

    Jos. A. Bank called the offer “inadequate and opportunistic” in announcing its rejection.

  • Sprouts signs into suburban Atlanta center

    Snellville, Ga. — Sprouts Farmers Market has signed a lease to occupy 26,000 sq. ft. in The Shoppes at Webb Gin in Snellville, Ga., an affluent suburb of Atlanta. This will be among the first Sprouts locations east of the Mississippi. Construction has begun on the store, which is slated to open this summer.

  • Mid-America arranges sale of two RPAI centers

    Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. — Mid-America Real Estate Corp. has brokered the sale of two centers on behalf of Retail Properties of America.
     
    First, Phillips Edison & Company purchased the 134,229-sq.-ft. Duck Creek Plaza in Bettendorf, Iowa, for $19.7 million. Schnucks and Marshalls anchor Duck Creek Plaza, and Home Depot serves as a shadow anchor. Mid-America Real Estate Corp. in cooperation with Mid-America Real Estate — Iowa LLC brokered the transaction exclusively on behalf of RPAI.

  • Jos. A Bank shareholder pushes toward Men’s Wearhouse deal

    New York -- Eminence Capital, a 4.9% stakeholder in Jos. A. Bank and a 10% shareholder in Men’s Wearhouse, said it supports Men's Wearhouse's proposed acquisition of the company and demanded that Jos. A. Bank's board sit down and engage in "meaningful, good faith negotiations."

    Efforts to merge the two retailers have dragged on for months, with each chain having their offers to acquire the other rejected.

  • Nordstrom Rack to open in Dayton, Ohio

    Seattle — Nordstrom plans to open a 35,000-sq.-ft. Nordstrom Rack at The Greene Town Center in Dayton, Ohio, in the fall of 2014. Olshan Properties, formerly known as MPI, Mall Properties, Inc., manages The Greene Town Center.

    Nordstrom Rack has four other locations in Ohio, two of which opened this past fall in Columbus and Westlake. Another Rack location is set to open at Sun Center in Columbus this spring. Nordstrom operates three full-line stores in Ohio.
