  • Gap February sales fall

    San Francisco – Gap Inc. had a disappointing February 2014 as net sales and same-store sales declined, compared to the same month in the prior year. Net sales fell 4% to $929 million from $966 million, while same-store sales dropped 7%.

  • Report: L. Brands expanding internationally

    New York -- L Brands Inc., parent of  Victoria's Secret, is bullish when it comes to foreign expansion. The company opened 160 international stores in 2013, for a total of 863 locations. It hopes to add more than 140 this year, according to Columbus Business First.

    Victoria's Secret expects to open 100 stores in 2014, including six additional locations in the United Kingdom, the report said.

  • New spring, summer leases at Glendale Galleria

    Glendale, Calif. — Throughout the spring and summer, Glendale Galleria will open nine new stores and eateries including Armani Jeans, Blaze Pizza, Brighton Collectibles, Chipotle, Coach, Earthbar, Lolli & Pops and Zumiez.

    They will join La Baugette, another newcomer, which opened its Glendale Galleria location back in February.

  • A bigger Belk

    Charlotte, N.C. — Belk has announced a $12.6 million expansion and renovation of its store in Cool Springs Galleria, a 1.1 million-sq.-ft. mall in Franklin, Tenn., a suburb of Nashville. CBL & Associates Properties and TIAA-CREF own the center jointly.

    Belk plans to create a new fashion flagship store for the greater Nashville region.

  • Robert Graham plans new Arizona store

    New York -- Robert Graham has signed a new lease agreement to open a branded retail store featuring the full Robert Graham collection in Scottsdale Fashion Square, Scottsdale, Ariz. The store, slated to open in spring 2014, will carry the complete range of Robert Graham, including men's sportswear, premium denim, footwear, furnishings, accessories, outerwear, and women's sportswear.  

  • Report: Future bright for brick-and-mortar retail

    New York -- The future looks bright for retail stores. That’s the conclusion of a new report by the International Council of Shopping Centers. The report, set to be released in May during ICSC’s RECon Conference, finds that population growth in the United States is now outpacing the addition of retail space by three-and-a-half times.

    “As a result, shopping space per capita, which peaked in 2009 at 24.2 square feet, now stands at 23.7. This correction will make way for demand in new retail space once again,” the report said.

  • H&M to Denver’s Orchard Town Center

    Denver — H&M has signed a lease for 20,000 sq. ft. at The Orchard Town Center, a 914,000-sq.-ft. open air regional retail center in Westminster, Colo., according to Vestar, the property’s owner. H&M plans to open the new store in the fall.

    The addition of H&M comes less than two months after Vestar acquired the property for $123.5 million in an all cash transaction. Vestar plans to redevelop the project, rebranding the center with new amenities while brining in new retailers.

  • Joe Fresh to expand globally

    Toronto - Loblaw Companies Ltd. and its affiliates, the owners of Joe Fresh, have signed three separate partnership agreements that bring the brand into 23 new countries. The agreements cover markets in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, and South Korea.

  • Ross Dress for Less expanding in Chicago area

    Dublin, Calif. - Ross Dress for Less will open four new locations in the greater Chicago area on March 8, 2014. These openings bring the total number of Chicago area stores to 35 for the retailer.

  • Lexy takes larger space at Moreno Valley, Calif., center

    Syracuse, N.Y. — Junior fashion retailer, Lexy, has expanded into a new 3,098-sq.-ft. store at Moreno Valley Mall in Moreno Valley, Calif. The new store opened on Feb. 14.

    Managed by Spinoso Real Estate Group, the center is home to 130 stores and restaurants including a number of new arrivals. Crunch Fitness recently moved into a 20,000-sq.-ft space. Junior fashion retailer, Image, opened in December 2013.
