  • Sales growth and challenging outlook on tap for Thursday

    Retailers who report monthly sales are set to report their best December results in several years this Thursday assuming preseason forecasts and in-season upward revisions prove accurate. Total holiday sales are forecast to increase in the low- to mid-single digits, and Thursday’s monthly results from the likes of Target, Macy’s, Kohl’s, TJX and others will offer an indication of how good a season it was.

  • Holiday 2010: Online Winners in Customer Satisfaction

    Amazon and Netflix are the top scorers in terms on online customer satisfaction, according to the sixth annual ForeSee Results E-Retail Satisfaction Index (U.S. Holiday Edition). Both had a score of 86 on the study’s 100-point scale, with 80 generally considered the threshold for excellence. Here are the study’s top performers:

  • Winn-Dixie eases shopping experience with new app

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Winn-Dixie Stores announced it launched a smartphone application that will help customers find their closest Winn-Dixie, allow them to view the weekly circular and sales for that specific store, and create and manage shopping lists that both sync with computers and can be shared with other users. The app for Apple’s iPhone and Android smart phones is available as a free download through Apple Inc.’s iTunes, the Android Market or through links on Winn-Dixie’s website at http://www.winndixie.com/Mobile/apps.

  • The Container Store and Urban Outfitters to be Honored at NRF 2011 Annual Convention

    Executives from The Container Store and Urban Outfitters are among the retailers who will be honored at the National Retail Federation’s Annual Convention and EXPO, or BIG Show, which will be held at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City, Jan. 9-12, 2011.

    The recipients will accept their awards during the show’s Annual Retail Industry Luncheon on Tuesday, Jan. 11.

  • Dress Barn changes its name to Ascena Retail Group

    New York City -- Dress Barn on Monday announced it has been renamed Ascena Retail Group Inc. and will trade on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker ASNA.

    The company said it had reorganized under the new holding company, but was not making changes to operations, directors or officers. The names of its three specialty chains -- Dressbarn, Maurices and Justice, also are unchanged.

  • Rising tide lifts TGT.com boat

    Target.com was second only to Walmart.com in terms of the number of unique visitors its website attracted this holiday season, and as such is well positioned to capture a large share of this year’s record online spending. Total online holiday sales advanced 13% to nearly $31 billion, according to the online measurement firm comScore. For the 56-day period beginning Nov. 1 through Dec.

  • DemandTec acquires assets of applied intelligence solutions

    San Mateo, Calif. -- DemandTec, the collaborative optimization network for retailers and consumer products companies, announced that it has acquired substantially all of the assets of Applied Intelligence Solutions, LLC (AIS), a developer of intelligent software solutions for the retail enterprise with a specific focus on softline retailers.

  • Office Depot launches messy office sweepstakes

    BOCA RATON, Fla. - Office Depot announced that it is inviting customers to upload photos of their messy, unorganized office space or desk its Facebook page for a chance to be named "America's Messiest Office" and win a wide selection of prizes.

    Photos can be uploaded through Jan. 31, and the person with the messiest office will win a $10,000 office makeover. Additionally, 10 visitors daily will win a $100 Office Depot gift card, and everyone who submits a messy office photo will receive a special Office Depot coupon good for a future purchase.
