  • Retail Group appoints VP real estate

    Lenexa, Kan. -- Retail Group of America, owner of Strasburg Children stores, has announced the appointment of Joanna B. Shawver as VP real estate. She will lead the company’s real estate expansion strategy in the United States.

    Shawver brings more than 20 years of commercial real estate experience to her new role, with specialties in tenant representation and shopping center leasing. Most recently, she was VP leasing with RED Development, a Kansas City and Phoenix-based real estate development firm.
     

  • Rite Aid offers 'virtual' clinics

    CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid is teaming up with OptumHealth to become the first to provide "virtual clinics" in a retail pharmacy setting.

    Rite Aid announced Thursday the launch of NowClinic online care services at select Rite Aid stores in the Detroit area. NowClinic allows Rite Aid customers to interact in real time with doctors and OptumHealth nurses.

  • Chipotle debuts new restaurant concept

    New York City -- Chipotle Mexican Grill has opened a new format, called ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen, in Washington, D.C.’s, DuPont Circle neighborhood.

    The Asian-themed eatery uses the same set-up as the company’s namesake restaurants, with customers able to customize the food offerings.
     

  • Retail vet Andy Giancamilli retiring as CEO of Katz Group

    Toronto -- Katz Group Canada has announced the retirement of industry veteran Andy Giancamilli as CEO, effective Feb. 2, 2012.  Katz is Canada’s largest integrated pharmacy network, operating more than 1,800 chain, franchise and independent pharmacies,

    Giancamilli will remain in an advisory role until May 2012. He will be succeeded by Frank Scorpiniti, who joined the company in April as COO.

    Giancamilli came to Katz after serving as executive VP at Canadian Tire. Prior to that, he was president and COO of Kmart.
     

  • Stein Mart appoints interim CEO

    Jacksonville, Fla. -- Stein Mart announced the appointment of Jay Stein as interim CEO, effective immediately, following the retirement of David H. Stovall, Jr., who has held that position since 2008.

    The company also announced the formation of a search committee of the board of directors led by Robert Mettler who serves as chair of the strategic planning committee of the board.
     

  • Panda Express to open at Santa Paula Shopping Center

    Santa Paula, Calif. -- Centro Properties Group US announced a 2,000-sq.-ft. lease has been executed with Panda Express at Santa Paula Shopping Center, located in Santa Paula, Calif.

    Centro Properties Group, based in New York City, is the owner of Santa Paula Shopping Center.
     

  • Esprit wears out North American welcome

    HONG KONG — On the heels of a 98% drop in its yearly earnings, Esprit Holdings said it is divesting its North American businesses and exiting three major European markets.

    The company said it is actively looking for a partner willing to acquire its North American operations, which include 93 stores in the United States.

  • Citi Trends to open two Pa., locations

    New York City -- Centro Properties Group US announced the recent lease executions of two Citi Trends locations. A 13,500-sq.-ft. lease has been executed at Lehigh Shopping Center, in Bethlehem, Pa., and a 12,000-sq.-ft. location will open at Kline Plaza, located in Harrisburg, Pa.

    Both Lehigh Shopping Center and Kline Plaza are owned by Centro Properties, based in New York City.
