  • Revlon celebrates 80 years during Fashion's Night Out

    NEW YORK — Revlon, along with its Global Artistic Director Gucci Westman, will co-host the ultimate "glam" party during New York’s Fashion’s Night Out on Sept. 6 to celebrate Revlon’s 80 years as a beauty icon.
     

  • Collective Brands on the sales block

    TOPEKA, Kan. — Collective Brands stockholders voted at a special meeting on Tuesday to approve the sale of the company for about $1.32 billion.

    Collective, which owns the Payless and Stride Rite shoe store banners, had announced in May that it accepted a purchase offer from a group that includes Wolverine Worldwide Inc., Blum Capital Partners and Golden Gate Capital.

  • Mattel Apptivity marries old-school toys with new technology

    EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Mattel's highly-anticipated Apptivity line, which the company introduced at the 2012 Toy Fair in February, is now available for the iPad.

    At the Toy Fair, representatives for Mattel demonstrated how Apptivity allows kids to take a physical toy, such as a Hot Wheels car and play with it on the screen of an iPad. Other brands now available through the Apptivity line include Fisher-Price, Monster High and WWE.

  • Express slashes outlook despite Q2 income growth

    COLUMBUS, Ohio — Express Inc. reported a 25% increase in net income for the second quarter. But the retailer slashed its profit outlook for the year and said that same-store sales barely rose last quarter and that it expects about the same for the rest of the year.

    Express earned $15.8 million for the quarter ended July 28, better than analysts expected, compared with $12.6 million in the year-ago period.

    Revenue increased 2% to $454.9 million, short of the $467 million analysts had expected. Same-store sales inched up 1%.

  • Uniqlo launches Djokovic-inspired tennis line

    NEW YORK — Uniqlo has introduced a new tennis line modeled after the performance apparel worn by top-ranked male professional tennis playe, Novak Djokovic. The line will launch in the United States on Aug. 27 and in other markets around the world at a later date, details of which will be announced in due course.

  • AEO raises outlook on record sales growth

    PITTSBURGH — American Eagle Outfitters' income from continuing operations increased 62% to 21 cents per diluted share for the second quarter, compared with 13 cents per diluted share for the comparable quarter last year. Net income for the second quarter, which includes a loss from discontinued operations, was 9 cents per diluted share, compared with 10 cents per diluted share last year.

  • Long-time fashion retail exec named EVP of Aeropostale

    NEW YORK — Aeropostale, a mall-based specialty retailer of casual and active apparel for young women and men, announced that Emilia Fabricant will be joining the company as EVP of the Aeropostale brand. Fabricant will be responsible for all aspects of design, merchandising and production for the brand, and will report to Thomas Johnson, CEO.

  • RILA opposed to ‘flawed’ proposed swipe fee settlement

    ARLINGTON, Va. — The Retail Industry Leaders Association criticized the proposed swipe fee settlement and urged class plaintiffs to reject the proposal. Announced in July, the proposed settlement stems from lawsuits challenging the anticompetitive swipe fee practices of Visa and MasterCard.
