  • Abercrombie Q4 profit tops view; same-store sales decline

    New Albany, Ohio -- Abercrombie & Fitch Co.’s net income rose to $157.2 million for the fourth quarter, compared with $45.8 million a year earlier for a 13-week period. The chain said its net income was calculated using a new system for valuing inventory
     
    Sales rose 11% to $1.47 billion for the 14 weeks ended Feb. 2, led by a 34% rise in international sales. (The period, however, includes an extra week compared to year earlier.)

  • Presidential Pools and Spas to open at Shops at Costco Plaza

    Tucson, Ariz. -- Presidential Pools and Spas said it is planning to relocate its Northwest Tucson store to the Shops at Costco Plaza.

    The 3,369-sq.-ft. store to slated to open on March 1.

     

  • CSA conference debuts real estate track; Container Store, Starbucks, Macy’s among retail speakers

    New York -- The SPECS conference, presented each year by Chain Store Age, will debut a real estate track as part of the 49th annual event. Held in Dallas from March 17 to March 20 at the Hilton Anatole, SPECS will feature real estate workshops designed toward educating and informing the retail development executives who attend the SPECS conference.

  • Hastings names COO

    Amarillo, Texas -- Hastings Entertainment announced that Alan Van Ongevalle has been promoted to president and COO, effective Feb. 15.

    Ongevalle previously served as EVP merchandising and has held various store management and senior management positions since joining Hastings in November 1992.

     

  • Survey details impact of payroll tax changes on retail

    Washington, D.C. -- Nearly three-quarters (73.3%) of consumers say their spending plans are taking a hit due to the recent payroll tax changes, according to NRF’s 2013 Tax Returns Survey conducted by BIGinsight.
     
    When asked how the new federal tax laws have affected spending, saving or budgeting of their households, nearly six in 10 (58.2%) of those polled say their plans have been either somewhat or greatly impacted. Specifically, nearly half (45.7%) say they will spend less overall, and 35.6% will watch for sales more often.
     

  • J.C. Penney sets mid-March launch of Joe Fresh shops

    Plano, Texas -- J.C. Penney Co. announced that Canada’s Joe Fresh brand will launch in J.C. Penney stores beginning March 15, with a collection of modern basics for women. The collection will be displayed in 750-sq.-ft. to 2,500-sq.-ft. dedicated shops in nearly 700 JCP stores.
     

  • Winick Realty named broker for Chipotle

    New York -- Winick Realty Group announced that it is exclusively representing Chipotle Mexican Grill in its leasing efforts throughout Northern New Jersey, Long Island and all five boroughs of New York City.

    The Winick team is seeking 1,600-sq.-ft. to 2,300-sq.-ft. sites in these markets. Since opening its first Manhattan location in 2003, Chipotle has grown to 60+ locations in New York City, Long Island and Northern New Jersey.

     

  • Dollar Tree to open at Rose Pavilion, Ridgeview Centre

    New York -- Brixmor Property Group announced that Dollar Tree has opened an 8,000-sq.-ft. store at Rose Pavilion, in Pleasanton, Calif., and will open a 9,000-sq.-ft. store at Ridgeview Centre, in Wise, Va.

    Brixmor Property Group, based in New York City, owns both Rose Pavilion and Ridgeview Centre.
