  • Former Sears Canada CEO named chief executive of Sephora Americas

    New York -- Sephora announced Thursday that Calvin McDonald has been named president and CEO of Sephora Americas, effective Jan. 1, 2014.

    McDonald, who previously served as president and CEO of Sears Canada, succeeds David Suliteanu.

    Suliteanu, who has helmed Sephora Americas since July 2000, will become CEO of Kendo Brands, which is owned by Sephora's parent, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA.

  • Target in big multichannel holiday push; rolling out in-store pickups

    Minneapolis – Target Corp. is making a big online push for the holidays, including expanding its in-store pick-up program for products ordered online to all of its U.S. stores by Nov. 1 (the service is now available in about half of the chain’s locations). And for the first time, Target will promote the concept of Cyber Week, with an ad campaign Dec. 1 through Dec. 3 that focuses on Cyber Week deals including Cyber Monday.

  • Sam’s Club opens four new locations

    Sam’s Club opened four new 136,000-sq.-ft. units this week expanding its base of clubs to a record 630 units.

    The new clubs are located in Owasso, Okla., Fall River, Mass., and Mansfield and Corpus Christi, Texas. The latter is a relocation of a 20 year old club. These opening follow the addition of three new clubs earlier in the month in Aiken, S.C., Romeoville, Ill., and Edmond, Okla.

  • Survey: Moms still make most household purchase decisions

    New York – Although dads are making inroads, moms still dominate purchase decisions in most U.S, households. According to a September 2013 survey by Child's Play Communications, moms remain the major household purchasing decision maker in about 80% of families.

  • New product launches boosts Colgate volume growth in Q3

    Colgate-Palmolive announced that during the third quarter, new product launches in the United States contributed to volume growth across categories and market share gains were seen in categories such as manual toothbrushes, powered toothbrushes, mouthwash and body washes.

  • Unleashed by Petco to Queens Fresh Meadows neighborhood

    Queens, N.Y. — The Fresh Meadows neighborhood in Queens is getting an Unleashed by Petco store. The new store will begin its grand opening celebrations Saturday, Nov. 9 and continue the celebrations over two more weekends.

    The Fresh Meadows Unleashed buy Petco will host several community gatherings throughout the year. There will be adoption events aiming to unite the area’s shelter pets with forever homes, Pug-a-Palooza, local dog meet-ups, contests and social gatherings.

  • Cabela’s announces three new stores, including its first in North Carolina

    Sidney, Neb. -- Cabela’s Inc. announced  plans to enter three new markets – Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada; Garner, N.C.; and Sun Prairie, Wis.

    Construction on Cabela’s 100,000-sq. ft. Garner store – its first North Carolina location – is scheduled to begin next summer. The store is expected to open in spring of 2015.

  • From Sears Canada to head of Sephora Americas

    Beauty retailer Sephora has appointed former Sears Canada and Loblaws executive Calvin McDonald as president and CEO of Sephora Americas, effective Jan. 1, 2014.

    McDonald succeeds David Suliteanu, who has led Sephora since July 2000. Suliteanu is becoming the CEO of Kendo Brands, a separate LVMH entity, which creates new beauty brands, as well as acquires brands. The Kendo portfolio today includes brands, such as Ole Henriksen, Kat von D, Formula X and Marc Jacobs Beauty, with others in development.
