  • Saks Fifth Avenue to relocate Houston Galleria flagship

    Houston -- Saks Inc. will open a new flagship store immediately adjacent to its existing location in the Houston Galleria, featuring 198,000 sq. ft. over two levels and a state-of-the-art store design. The current store will remain open until the new store opens in fall 2015. Once the old store closes, it will be converted to a two-level mall wing connecting the new Saks to Neiman Marcus and adding 35 retailers and restaurants.

  • Safeway reaches $600K settlement with EPA

    Pleasanton, Calif. -- Safeway, Inc. has reached a $600,000 settlement with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Justice (DOJ) in regard to violations of the Clean Air Act. The government alleges that Safeway neglected to repair leaks of heat-trapping gas HCFC-22 from its refrigerators in a timely manner or keep proper records of refrigerator maintenance.

  • Two new restaurants for The Avenue Peachtree City

    Atlanta — Brixx Wood Fired Pizza and Which Wich? Superior Sandwiches have leased restaurant space at The Avenue Peachtree City in Atlanta. Brixx will open Sept. 17 in what will be its third Georgia location.

    Which Wich? with more than 50 kinds of sandwiches will make The Avenue is 15th Georgia location.

     

  • Report: J.C. Penney dumping Martha Stewart

    New York -- J.C. Penney Co. plans to end its association with the Martha Stewart brand after disappointing sales, according to the New York Post. The report, which cited unidentified sources, said the decision was made by Penney CEO Myron Ullman, who returned to the chain in April following the ouster of Ron Johnson.

  • CBL closes sale of three malls for $176 million

    Chattanooga, Tenn.CBL & Associates Properties has closed on the sale of three malls and three related associated centers in a portfolio transaction for a gross sale price of $176 million in cash. The properties include Georgia Square Mall and Georgia Square Plaza in Athens, Ga.; Panama City Mall and The Shoppes at Panama City in Panama City, Fla.; and Rivergate Mall and Village at Rivergate in Nashville, Tenn.

  • NRDC signs three tenants at Pohatcong Plaza

    Purchase, N.Y. — Hobby Lobby, Marshall’s and Home Goods have leased more than 98,000 sq. ft. of space at 562,000-sq.-ft. Pohatcong Plaza power center in Phillipsburg, N.J., according to National Realty & Development Corp.

    The retailers will occupy a redeveloped building where Wal-Mart operated before expanding to a Supercenter early last year — in NRDC’s adjoining Pohatcong Plaza II.

     

  • Walgreen August comps beat Street

    Deerfield, Ill. -- Walgreens reported that same-store sales for the month of August rose 4.8%, beating Wall Street expectations of a 2.9% gain.

    Results included a 6.4% gain from the pharmacy and a 2.2% rise from the front-end.

    Total revenue for August rose 6% to $6.17 billion.

  • Robert Graham to make Manhattan debut

    New York -- Fashion designer Robert Graham will open his first New York City branded retail store at 380 Bleecker Street in SoHo, joining high-end neighbors such as Burberry, Brunello Cucinelli, Marc Jacobs, rag & bone, and Ralph Lauren. The Robert Graham store is slated to open this fall.
