  • Three retailers to centers in NW Chicago’s suburbs

    Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. — Mid-America Asset Management Inc. has announced that the firm recently secured new retail leases on behalf of three shopping centers in Chicago’s northwest suburbs.

    Fruitful Yield has taken 6,630 sq. ft. in North Tower Plaza in Elmwood Park, Illinois. The 26,088-sq.-ft. center features Super Cuts, Great American Bagel and Subway. Mid-America represented the landlord, while JLL represented the tenant.

  • Mattress Firm names CFO

    Houston — Mattress Firm Holding Corp. announced the promotion of Alex Weiss to executive VP and CFO of the company, effective July 30, 2014, the beginning of the retailer’s third fiscal quarter.  He succeeds Jim Black who transitions into the role of senior corporate advisor to Mattress Firm through the end of the current fiscal year.

  • Sales, margins hit Sears Hometown Q1 net income

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. — Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores Inc. had a difficult first quarter of fiscal 2014, reporting a substantial decline in net income as well as drops in net sales and same-store sales. Net income declined 75% to $3.7 million from $15 million.

  • Ace Hardware tops customer satisfaction ranking for eighth consecutive year

    Oak Brook, Ill. -- The J.D. Power 2014 U.S. Home Improvement Retailer Store Satisfaction Study has ranked Ace Hardware “Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Home Improvement Retail Stores” for the eighth year in a row. Ace has captured this ranking ever since the organization began this study eight years ago.

  • Ashley Furniture HomeStore celebrates grand opening

    Colton, Calif. — Ashley Furniture HomeStore has opened a new store in Los Angeles. The two-story freestanding building encompasses 49,374 sq. ft.

  • Cabela’s plans Woodbury, New York, store

    Sidney, Neb. — Cabela’s Inc. plans to construct a 90,000-sq.-ft. store in Woodbury, New York. The retailer will begin construction in spring 2015 and expects to open in spring 2016. It will be Cabela’s second store in New York. The first, located in Cheektowaga, is expected to open this fall.

  • Ikea completes South Florida’s largest solar project

    Sweetwater, Fla. -- Ikea announced it had completed the installation of South Florida’s largest solar array, which will be plugged-in officially atop the future Miami-Dade Ikea store opening this summer in Sweetwater, Florida. Combined with rooftop arrays in Orlando, Tampa, and Sunrise, this fourth solar project will keep Ikea as the state’s largest non-utility solar owner.

  • Sears testing ‘Connected Solutions’ in-store shops in three locations

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears is testing “Connected Solutions” experiential shops that bring together smart, or connected, home and personal automation products. The 1,700-sq.-ft. shops are being piloted in three Sears locations in the Chicago area, including Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg, Illinois; and Oakbrook Center, Oakbrook, Illinois.
