  • Home Depot overcomes slow start to spring selling season in Q1

    Despite getting a slow start to the year, The Home Depot rallied in the first quarter thanks to solid results in non-weather-impacted markets.

    The home improvement retailer reported first-quarter sales of $19.7 billion, up 2.9% from last year's first quarter. Comparable store sales were up 2.6%. Comp-store sales for U.S. stores were positive 3.3%.

    The company also reported double-digit growth in net earnings — up 12.5% to $1.38 billion.

  • Home Depot net income rises in Q1, misses estimates

    Atlanta – Severe weather dampened net income and sales growth at The Home Depot during the first quarter of fiscal 2014, causing increases in those figures to fall short of Wall Street estimates. Net income improved 17% to $1.4 billion from $1.2 billion.

  • Propel Equity Partners acquires Summit Products

    Propel Equity Partners, a private equity firm focused on investing and creating value in leading consumer brands, has acquired Summit Products.

    The assets of Summit Products, which include Backyard Safari, Zillionz, Covert Force, Test Pilot And Stink Bugzzz brands, will be incorporated into the Alex Brands family of leading toy brands.

    Ottawa, Canada - Amazon.com was the predominant low-price leader in several product categories from January through early April 2014. 360pi compared the pricing strategies of the industry’s top retailers, such as Amazon, Walmart, Home Depot, Costco and others, all based off of Amazon’s own product assortment relative to other retailers in power drills, televisions and outdoor gear.

    Staples this week debuted eight new product categories in its Dallas retail stores to help business customers “Make More One-stop Shopping Happen.” The product expansion is rolling out to more than 1,000 stores across the U.S. and hundreds more in Canada.

  • Whirlpool Brand leverages social media in latest sweepstakes

    Whirlpool is taking its latest campaign to social media, and encouraging people to take and share photos of the inside of their refrigerators using hashtag #fridgie — a play on “selfie.”

    The concept was inspired by the design of the latest Whirlpool 4-Door French Door Refrigerator.

  • First Data: Easter, weather boost consumer spending in April

    Atlanta - Consumer year-over-year spending growth of 4.1% gained momentum in April 2014 compared to the prior month’s growth of 3.1%, driven by warmer weather as well as the Easter shift into April this year, according to First Data SpendTrend analysis. The report, which tracks same-store point-of-sale data by credit, signature debit, PIN debit, EBT, closed-loop prepaid cards and checks from nearly four million merchant locations serviced by First Data, shows transaction growth of 3.5% in April,  compared to March’s 2.7% growth.
